PaRtZ
replacing my pads now and just felt that my disc has an un-even surface. Going along a radius, it goes +/- 1mm in a few places. My question is simply is it ok for me to put new pads on or do i HAVE to get new discs?thanks
Dave Lowe
There is an allowed tolerance, what that is on your disc I don’t know you will find it varies from disc to disc depending on thickness, I would change them, but im a bit cautious as I work as an aircraft engineer and have seen the out come of distorted and worn discs, remember they will not get better only worse. CurtisRider
its an excuse to get grooved and drilled discs innit? goooo oooonnnn! standard discs are cheap, personally brakes are something i wouldn't skimp on, although like said before, its pretty common for the surface not to be terribly even
the666ers
Just do both you tight arse. They're pretty cheap parts if you get them from gsf or euro's and you'll be safe in the knowledge it's all fresh. Prevention is better than cure. Bucky
probably means they are metal to metal so you'll need to do discs and pads.
PaRtZ
wel i changed them and got them running again, seems fine and stop me so i cant complain. Maybe if I ground the disc in a radial pattern it will help?........
nmt_oli
The disks can be thinner than when they were new, up to an allowed tolerance, but if they are scored as your description suggests, definately buy new. will much improve the braking, and increase the life of your new pads.
