just seeing how you guys buy your bits. Basically I have no brake pad left and wondering if I should buy online because its easier, go to a shop because its instant, or go to a scrapyard cos its cheaper

Ill probably go to a local shop but just seeing what you guys would do. Halfords aint got them in before anyone says :P

you have a skoda dont you matt?. you can he get some pads online from www.gsfcarparts.com or go to the nearest branch, there pretty good a gsf, iv got loads of stuff from there, and thery sell at trade price i do belive (or very close to it on most parts) seeing as though your changing your pads, yo might want to check the disc condition, as it might be worth geting new discs aswell

normally use CES for for pads, filters etc, just blag "im from "random localish garage", just wondering could you put them on a cash sale." boom, trade price ***. for bigger stuff i use either GSF/ebay, dependant on whats cheapest. bare in mind its part of the vag group, so if buyin from a dealer, buyin from the cheapest one, will get you the same parts, for example, passats an a4's are the same vehicles, think audis price on a set of front pads with wear indicators was £47, vw's where £33. or something along them lines, that was retail though.

yeah thats what I wondered but depending on how much they charge you probs be better off getting them from a normal shop

Anyway I got 4 new pads from my lcs (local car shop :P ) cost me £22 which isn't bad i reckon. Just going to see if I need discs too now........

I get a lot of stuff from scrappies, but brakes and tyres are two areas you should definately buy new if at all possible, and replace in pairs! they are key safety features. My only exception to this is tyres on 2nd hanb wheels.

Other consumables such as filters would also be stupid to get from scrappies. more mechanical parts, or body parts are a definate scrappy buy!
