Ryan Blackwell
Hey guys a few weeks ago i had my my rear brake without a booster and the brake was nice and loud but now that i have put a booster on the brake sounds really quiet and horriable.Just wondering weather having a booster makes any diffrence to the sound of the pads.Cheers. Synergy
why does it matter what sound it makes surely its how the performance compares no?
Dan6061
Maybe you set it up differently when you put the booster on? - Like the pads weren't perfectly flat on the rim or something?
nickyw
Because your brakes stiffer?
moza
Its because it is stiffer, my mate ran a booster then he got a new frame and left the booster of and his brake incredible! i recon its because the cylinders can move a little bit moza
RobinJI
Yeah, as said above, it will just be the setup, try setting it up again.
20inchsuperstar
why are so many people so bothered about noises?if they work well but are silent, great, but youll still get laughed at if you strive for noise and land on your ass alot because you have 'tarded noisy brakes.as previously said, theyre probably set up differently.matt
Inspired Dave
why are so many people so bothered about noises?Probably a confidence thing. Now I've moved over to dual disc I'm really confident that my brake will hold if I do 'x' move, but the nice loud screech of a rim brake adds a further element of confidence every time you slow your wheel. Personally I love the extra confidence in the sound of a rim brake, but the added benefits of a rear disk brake sure make for tough choices! Ali C
a vee is best of both worlds! quiet forwards, loud backwards. beard<Right<blahh blahh<anyway, I found a booster would reduce the amount of vibration from a brake setup and stopped the noise (depending on complete setup of course)
oakley
its because there isn't as much vibration, and vibration makes sounds!therefore, less vibration, less sound!
Oskar
same with my brake... when i put a onza carbonbooster on the brake is f**king horrible and quiet, and the setup is exactly the same as without the booster.

Personally I love the extra confidence in the sound of a rim brake, but the added benefits of a rear disk brake sure make for tough choices! That man's got it ! It's nothing mechanical that says a loud hub and brake will work better it's you ! If you roll up to the edge of a wall with a king whurring in the back then a really loud sharp bite from your brake, you feel 100 times better about making the gap. all in the brain ! So if having a booster is affecting your performance, get rid of it. Or just set 'em up again. :$Joel Edited February 28, 2007 by JsyJoel93
Dan Clark
I remember the days when having a quiet bike was in fashion.
Luke Rainbird
If I know my brake will hold then that's good for me.If I know my brake will hold and it's silent, even better

Phill_Monks
its because the brake isnt slipping... when you ride forwards and pull the lever in it makes a loud noise,(its slip's)so when it dosnt make a noise it means its not slipping if you get me i would keep it on myself phill Edited February 28, 2007 by GU_TYPHOON
