Maximus
Hi,Well the other day i went out when its was raining and my back maggy with my Rock pads (green) went all silent and were rubbish the rim seamed to gather a load black stuff i call its stuff cos i dont know what it is, but to get to the point i washed the side walls of my rim with petrol and i was amazed how clean it got, but I was not nearly as amazed when i got on my bike, wow that brake set up was mint! There was 110% lock there was even more than before I tried to purposely fall off, but the brake would not have it.It think its because its make the pads softer? Or something but its great!PS, im not trying to make out that the rock pads needed this, the rock pads are Good any way, but when this is used there better.try it, but let the peterol dry first. Fishy
You shouldn't really use petrol, it can melt the pads if you don't wash it off, and it leaves an oily resadue. But saying that, I did, and it worked alright.
trials rules
I think i would be too tempted to set it alight and ride if i tried it! Also its quite an expensive way of doing it..
Simpson
Also its quite an expensive way of doing it..whaaa petrol is cheap compared to oils and geases..... costs 9 pounds for my 2 stoke oil for a litre and my scooter takes 4 litres of petrol for 4 pounds.... JsyJoel93
Petrol works well, but even better...White Spirit!Goes on, and takes crap off your rim like petrol, but dries up your rim completely afterwards giving an amazing bite (with citrus's) so thats another alternative.Joel

But, petrol is good, i have used it many times, after you have cleaned it all off get a warm cloth ( been on radiator or microwave for 10 secs) then rub the oily residue left.Thats what i do. moto_psycho
1stly, i was expecting the next word to be "SHOWER" 2ndly, i can see petrol being pretty good actually, i would rip the crap out of the rim (rubber, mud, old tar etc) and when petrol dries is leaves a small amount of residue, which i can see acting like tar, but obviously not as long lasting!3rdly, tried diesel yet?4th..ly, ignore 3rdly5th..eth, if you wanna get your rim spanking clean, use brake and clutch component cleaner, its pretty pricey, but really does strip all the gunk out and leaves no residue whatsoever! core
disk brake cleaner that is what it is made for or any citrus based cleaning product would work not aswell as brake/clutch cleaner
eskimo
I find (on a grind) with Coust pads pooring fresh boiling water over the whole rim and fully soaking it. Seems to make the pads scream even louder. But with a booster they don't make any noise now
jsychem
Joel I think you'll find that petrols alot better, this is because the petrol cleans the rim spotless and then evaporates straight away leaving the rim clean and dry. And even if it is still wet it shouldn't be able to ware down the pads as it simply isn't strong enough.
