20inchsuperstar
Well after the southend ride last weekend, i was pretty hacked off.My lovely try-all 108.9 freewheel that ive had nothing but praise for has started a fast descent in performance. It is now useless at speeds over 5mph, working about 25% of the time. Which now renders it useless doing anything requiring any form of speed. There have been a few people who have said their freewheels have not lived up to the hype, braking after by no means exceptionally hard riding.I was always saying how they must have done something to it, or had a dodgy one.I have had this on for under four months and if this is its use life, im am not a happy chappy.i was coming flying down peir hill, playing silly fools with a superman impression, when simpson slowed domn in front of me, i got both feet back on the pedals, swerved away from him, and pedalled to get some speed back up......Nothing. I nearly went over the bars, got shot back onto the back wheel, my wheel are my foot, then ran it over, i proceeded to zoom down the hill going "aarrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh my ass is on fire!" as i got a nice hole burnt in my trousers. quite funny really, but will_zooboys wasn't.....it had skipped a few times before that day, but i didn't think much of it, just thought that it was because i was going a little quick and i have a low gear ratio.Anyways, back to Will_Zooboys,It decided to go for a skip as he was doing a gap to road rail, he himself hasn't had his for very long either. it went for another skipping session when he was going for a 6 foot gap from one rail to another, totally cocked it due to the freewheel and whacked his head on the rail, splitting his helmet in two.what do you thinks wrong with all these freewheels then?i will rip mine to bits when its seriously gone, but this is really unexpected from a freewheel of this quality, and all it has had said about it. 108 eps? id rather have 8 as long as they worked.how can a try-all last for less time than an acs????anyone else had any problems? what did you do about it?matt Edited February 20, 2007 by 20inchsuperstar

PaRtZ
the rail or his head?to be honest im ALWAYS sceptical of freewheels, and now that im forced to run one makes me a tad nervous (eno though) I was told perhaps preload was a problem? Could even be the chainline, chain tension. Its not necessarily the freewheel. Having said that, if you've just gone from another freewheel to the try-all, without changing any components then obviously somethings wrong Open it up and check it all, all the pawls are good and that theres no crap or shards of metal in there which could stop the engagementOther than that, im afraid im not really a freewheel person profile for me
hugh_b
These try-all frewheels seem to be a bit hit and miss. Some work great, some just go completely tits up. I have run the acs for ages but when i got my new 07 monty ti it came with one of the 72 pick up point freewheels, they cost just under £40 and there great mine hasnt skipped once and not come loose once either. On my new 26" build i have gone for a tensile as this is what they had in stock and they seem pretty good, and my bike is being built with mainly onza parts etc. For £50 the try-all should no way skip like that, complain to koxx direct or go back to the shop you got it from, i would! 20inchsuperstar
i bought it from tarty , i know theyre sound and i wouldnt buy from anywhere else withoutout a good reason but would they really want to give me another freewheel for no fault of their ownmatt
Trialsbikenut
I agree with you mine is total Sh**e, had it for bout 5 months now and the bearinings have fell out of as it has came loose, god nose how it has, skips all the time when just pedaling and gapping, setting up for taps sidehops etc, i am not to chuffed with it as they have had such good reviews, they are very over-eastimated, my tensile was alot better and lasted alot longer, you could service that vey easily aswell due to the sealed bearings but this is hard as to service with the loose bearings and is apsolutely cr*p, think i will be getting a profile next Thanks Tom
modman
To be honest i wouldnt expect anything better than that from koxx, i find most of their parts quite quality and the quality of customer care is damn right shoddy too, although if you bought it from tartys, just explain your situation and im sure they'd be able to help some way, they're good blokes

Mike Poyzer @ Onza
I would just like to mention at this point that we are now supplying Tensile as original equipment to 2 French bicycle manufacturers.
Savage
I would like to mention at this point that I trusted the 108.9 to win the British and World Championship and it comes fitted as standard to the best bike made in France. So far I, Tarty and other dealers have sold many hundreds of 108.9's - 3 have been sent back - nuf said.Ben. montyrider
i know this might be a stupid question but im gonna ask it anyway as it could be a simple mistake.Did u put the little silver ring in between ur crank and the free wheel (havin the flat side against the crank) ?????? , its very unlikely but hey were only human.I've had no probs, never skipped once and i thrash down some big hills in my town and its still perfect. The Duck
Sounds like your just the unlucky ones. I wouldn't be happy with it though. I've had mine for, well, since they came out and its absoloutly fine! Never skipped and isn't showing any signs of age. My mate who rides with me alll the time got himself a tensile about a month after I got my try-all and that skipped the other day for the first time.I'm pretty chuffed with mine
powerz
I run a tensile freewheel but my mate uses a try-all one and straight of the bat it skipped like hell, he thought maybe it just needs bedding in ect but 4 months on and it still skips like mad. When ever he pedal hops or puts some power into the drivetrain it skips and makes a loud noise. The engagment on them feels real nice but from what iv'e seen & heard i would stick with my tensile which has been good as gold since the day i got it, well apart from 2 nights ago it turned into a fixed cog for 2 mins then went alright again Edited February 21, 2007 by powerz

downhill_rob2@hotmail.com
Iv always been skeptible about the Try-all (fail all) freewheels...108 eps is WAYYYY too many EP's IMO, its just un needed to be honest... as proven, they arent THAT strong...Im not saying any other freewheel is much better, but im saying, tensiles *** Edited February 21, 2007 by terror-error
