Dai the Socket
Good thing mac are finally with the times... my 4 year old music player has that to protect its hard drive Besides, a hard disk protection system won't stop the screen cracking.Yeah but I bet most PC's dont have it, so doesn't that mean they're STILL not with the times? Tomm
They've had the sudden motion sensor thing for ages - My Powerbook has it, and my iBook G4 before that. So probably at least 2-3 years, I don't know exactly. I don't know of any PC laptops that have such technology though?Having said that, I'm not sure it has a practical use. I have no idea how it works, but using the sensor to make a movement-sensitive light-saber program is cool
Krisboats
Yeah but I bet most PC's dont have it, so doesn't that mean they're STILL not with the times? link toshiba too hell even acer do itSony, ibm, toshiba and dell have been doing it for a while now ... but this isn't true for all manufacturers, but most top models have it. Still seems pretty useless, hard drives can take more of a beating than a screen can. Edited February 19, 2007 by Krisboats
Janson
but still, it does protect the hdd... imagine being an important businessman with important businesswork on the computer.. you drop it. you want the files back, but you don't care about the screen, just the files. you are an important businessman. i saw a hack somebody did, having virtual desktops and literally slapping the screen to change between them. I don't think I 'get' virtual desktop. Is it just an app for an Admin of a network to be able to do stuff on all the screens or something?I mean I'm admin at my home network, and does it mean I can log in to my iMac, on my Mac Mini and see the identical screen that I would on the other computer and do everything like it WAS the other computer? It confuses me
Trebor
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6378541.stmQuite an interesting read. Relating to security issues with Macs. I'm not trying to put them down, I intend to get an 20" iMac in the next month (can't wait!!), but it shows that apple seem to care about the issues, eventually

I can't wait.Nick, you're thinking of Remote DesktopsBasically, what you've said is right. I have Remote Desktop server on my iMac which is at the end of my bed, and use my MacBook Pro from in my bed to control iTunes, or VLC when im watching videos, so I dont have to get up.Basically its so if someone came along and said "I've got a problem with my computer can you come and sort it out" all the admin has to do is say, what computer is yours, they can then find it in Remote Desktop, "control" it, fix the problem, and it's sorted. They dont even have to get up (as long as it's software based)Hope that helped fill a post full of mindless shit Edited February 20, 2007 by MonsterJ
Willy
It looks like im going to wait until leopard comes out to get a new laptop, and then more than likely buy a mac. Just one more question, not really related but ohwell, Ive been reading about and see theres now issues with macs keeping up on graphics performance as they have "old" vid cards in, I know that the cards are pretty rubbish compared to what you can get, eg nVidia 8800, or even just a 7950 GT. What you lot reckon, will apple update to a new graphics platform any time soon? And if so, "when" (rough guess).Willy

Every 3 months apple release something new, a better 'whatever' which makes your old machine a little older haha. From when they announce Leopard for release you can buy a Mac and then when the disks get into stores take it back and then get it upgraded free I'm buying mine Late august before Uni I think

If you were such an important business man you could just send it off to that crazy place of tech heads, they fix a dropped hard drive for £15+delivery back to you. They can also recover data from wiped hard drives, burnt ones, hard drives smashed with hammers etc. I think they had a motto like if they can't retrieve the data you get a free hard drive or something (obviously within reason). Janson
macs network with PCs equally fine, or perhaps even better...oh and important businessmen are huge showoffs.. a mac is cooler than a pc. way cooler. important businessmen are old men, they want to look young and sportif, so they use a chic computer that still does the important businessman business. I use my phone and bluetooth to control my Powerbook if I ever need to control it from across the room. LINK. You just install the software on your phone. I think it might just be SE phones though.I occasionally use VNC to control my PC from my Mac, it works like a remote desktop. I don't use it very often though. So you don't need to move the cursor at all.
