fathopper
Right I have an engine in a car which weigh approx 300kg, can i lift it single handedly?, ive got a winch to lift it out with but its one that you pull not electronic. So would anyone have a simple idea to take it out without killing myself in the process??
Bucky
old garden swing.mates done 205 gti 1.9 & 1.6 & Mi15 engine with that and a peice of washing line rope...either that or lift the frond end of the car and drop engine.wouldnt recomend doing it alone even if its just your mum or sister telling you it needs to go left right back forward up down etc. Edited February 17, 2007 by Bucky
Shaun H
A system involving levers to lessen the load or pulleys. There's no way you'll lift 300kg directly.
TomR
Either hire a winch/stand from somewhere, or use the one youve got off a swing or something like bucky said. Do you honestly think you can lift 300kg?
RobinJI
Alan, your winch uses a pulley system right? like, it doubles back 2/3 times if I remember right? If so then you might be able to lift it yourself, but it'll be about as safe as a pissed off bear. You need at least another person to direct it and stuff, and probable another to help you tug on the rope. Also how old is the rope? a new one rated at least higher than 400kgish would be a good idea really.Oh yeah, he cant lift the car off it, as its a horizontally opposing piston layout, so it overhangs the suspension leaf springs I think, and it would be nicer to do it in the garage. fathopper
No i dont think i can lift it directly, i think i would cripple myself. garden swing??, the winch is mounted to the roof of my garage. And as for lifting the car chasis I'm not sure, I might bend it out of shape the cars really old. Was mentioned about it ages ago. Robins the ropes fine. http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=83289 Edited February 17, 2007 by fathopper

Bucky
the winch is mounted to the roof of my garage. http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=83289so its a block & tackle, which is made for lifting heavy stuff i.e. engines. fathopper
hmmm could go very wrong i take itYeah it could knowing my luck ill drop it and end up denting the chasis. And the winch rope doubles back 2 or 3 times so do you reckon it would be ok for one man lifting?
JonMack
Why not get some of your mates to come over and give you a hand?
fathopper
Why not get some of your mates to come over and give you a hand?We did that last tine to put it in almost killed them, so rather do on my own, but now i have a mate whos just gunna guide me out so should be able to do it now, took like 5 of us last time to put it in. Fish-Finger-er
We did that last tine to put it in almost killed them, so rather do on my own, but now i have a mate whos just gunna guide me out so should be able to do it now, took like 5 of us last time to put it in.so if it almost killed 5 of you, you stand little chance on your own. but yea, winch is the way forward, onto something secure, at least one person guiding you, and take it slow. other "kev tested " ways of engine removal, include a block and tackle, strapped to 2 pieces of 2 x 4 board balanced on 2 10 foot high walls. stickin the vehicle on blocks 2 foot high at the back, handbrake on, and jacking the front end up. then using rope to attach the engine to a barn roof support. and slowly lowerin the jacks(dodgy, but the only option if you havent got a block an tackle, or the 2 below options)front loader tractor, with a bail spike on it.ropes from that to the engine mounts. used much the same as a winch, but with less control. or my personal favourite. run some tow rope from the back of a landrover. over a wooden beam in an old barn, and round the engine(and through the lifting holes). using a friend or 2, slowly drive the landrover forward. note due to landrovers having poor handbrakes. and brakes that wernt too hot either. it was held on the clutch for a lot of the time. so although the engine was out of one landrover, another needed a new clutch. dave85
It's called a Pull-lift. Pretty handy bit of kit to have, in an emergency a big ratchet strap will work as well.
