The Sidehop Thread

Whoever said about the english people tucking is right. Too many people tuck on small walls that are about 30" or so, I cannot sidehop that high about 42" at best and I still do not tuck on it. You have to get the actual technique right first, as Spode said pages back, the more your spring the higher you go, when you have gone as high as you can then you add a tuck to get the extra height. A lot of the walls that have been tucked on here you could put your bloody front wheel on before sidehopping it at all.

Too much emphasis on tucking not enough on actualy hoping, more to the point it gets pretty boring when all you see mod riders do is basically sidehop, seems to be a fashion at the moment. Been on a few rides recently and all the mod riders do is sidehop stuff and the occasional gap here and there, then sidehop some more.

How can you even state that is true ? I mean come on. Street Trials Riding needs power...Nobody can argue that fact...Yes i know technique helps aswell but it isn't everything. For the smaller riders with not as much power...A tuck is essential...No matter on the hight of the wall that is as high as they can get at there riding point...A tuck isn't put on it is done naturally.

Don't be so bias against Mod riders aswell. To be perfectly honest with you...I found stock easier to sidehop than a mod. As for all stock riders. All i ever see is taps and hooks. You can't compare the lieks of one move been better than the other just because there is a tuck involved.

Really. You need to understand that some people do actually need to tuck to get up 38-40" walls because they simply havn't got the power...So they tuck to make it...You may say "Well he's got the wrong technique then"...News flash, He hasn't...It's his way of doing it...Everybody has different ways of doing things. Thats all there is to it.

Rant over.

Danny.

Fully agreed.

Danny, what you probably forgot about is that many mod riders who tuck 35" walls don't actually pull the bike up while tucking, but drop "into" the bike if you know what I mean. I'm all for tucks which are necessary to get up a wall, I just think it looks silly when a rider gets up a wall without any problem, lands on it and then tucks.

As for stock riders only tapping and hooking - I disagree with that, but I'm not going to create a fuss since I have similar observations about mod riders only sidehopping and gaping.
