RobinJI
Because the bearings in ISIS BBs are shite. Also the splines on ISIS have a limited life, as they are already wedged right on, so if they wear, you cant take out the play. With square taper you can keep tightening them further onto the axle.Square taper cranks can be just as good as long as you don't run them loose. ogre
shhh also another point for square taper, prety much everybike shop will have square taper bbs very few bikeshops i've been into have isis ones plus your prety unlikely to be carrying £50 around with you if you kill your isis bb, conpared to scrounging a tenner for a replacement
mettam1988
fair enough question answered. what advantages do isis have then? cos i always thought they were stronger and that was why they cost more and were therefore better Edited February 11, 2007 by mettam1988
mat hudson
square taper= better bearings but slightly weeker spindle. i dont go big enough to break em so i'm all good.
ogre
there harder to round? in theory they're stiffer + the axles are harder to kill. bearings die faster though
