theone2be
Righty, ive got a try-all hope trial disk brake, and at the moment i'm only running a 160 rotor because i havent got the adaptor for the 200 rotor. The disc just wont hold at all, it will slow me down sharpish and it will hold under me rocking front to back to keep balance but if i need to endo or gap to the front it wont hold my weight at all and just slips. Also the lever feels really spongy. What can i do to make it hold and reduce the spongyness. Also the disc will never line up with the pads and allways rubs, any ideas to help space it out. ted
Sounds like they need a bleed to me. That should get rid of the sponginess .
Broomer
the monos are nearly always spongey and have late biting points, are the disk mounts faced? this helps the brake to align it self.
spode@thinkbikes
Any associated noises?
RobinJI
Yeah, try getting the Mounts faced and wind the reach adjuster out so its pretty far out from the bars. They suck if you have the reach in too far.
basher
The spongyness can be one of to thing either it needs a bleed or the disk mounts needs facing, it sounds like your mounts need facing if the pads arnt lineing up properly. If you pull the lever in fully past the sponge, then try turning your wheel more than likely it wont it will lock up this just means that once you have got rid of the sponge your problem should be solved and the brake lock up properly. theone2be
ok well the mounts are now faced, and if anything its got worse. The pads line up really well now, but the pads just wont grip to the disc they have even less hold now. Im going to have to go and get it bled now. matthewholdsworth
hold your brake on, push the bike forward (or back if your prefer ) does it sound really nasty (hard sound to describe) almost a groan, slightly tinnyif thats the case pads are probs contaminated, the sounds is caused by the disc slipping through the pads and is very distinctive just hard to describe. the brake does "work" but really should (its amazing how many people dont know their pads are ruined)hope this helps a little sorry im a bit vague
theone2be
Right ive noticed that after i ride with a in line brake, when i finish the pad on the bore cap side is allways touching the disc and is pushing / bending the disc onto the other pad, also ive noticed the other pad dosnt seem to move much at all. Also there is a few little bubbles coming from where the red line is, and i think oil may be escaping. Whats up with my brake!?!?!
matthewholdsworth
sounds like you got some lazy pistons or a screwed seal, if oil is coming fromt here its prob on ur disc, thats why it wont workif you can do it yourself, bleed it, get the pistons as out as they can be without falling out and clean and lube them using silicon lube (NB remove pads). this should workor take it to LBS and get them to do it for u. if it needs seals or pistons they will be able to sort this. ask them for a quote first as they may try to rip u off (since they assume u know nothing about brakes and so will pull the "expert" line lolbleed should be c. £10-12 lube c.£1 (if they charge at all) and seals can be a bit pricey say bout £5 at most (these figures are off top of me head)labour may be more than just a bleed if seals need replacing. or ring.email hope see what they suggest it is, be specific and they will prob diagnose it straight away
