Rusevelt
Is the community(us), and industry(them), any closer to making this a reality? or are we all just grasping at the straws of potential opportunity. it has taken over 30yrs for bmx to reach this level of international status as an olympic sport, and with the 2008 Olympics just round the corner, the sport is gonna explode even further. So what are the underlying issues preventing trials from gaining olympic status, and can we trialsters do anything as a united front to change this? Or should we just forget about it and just ride....Ps, if this mild weather continues, were gonna have one awesome spring and summer coming. rolo
hi guys, would be great if they did it in 2012 (for obvious reasons) it would be good because you would see a big section for trials in the centre. I should think alot would try and qualify.
tom 20
Its a good idea and I'm all for it but it would just be the same people winning things all the time. like the riders that win uci and bci competitions would be a thrilling watch though better than watching male pole-vaulting
Scotty Evil1
would be a thrilling watch though better than watching male pole-vaulting whats wrong with that!!!!!!!!!! Ive heard rumours/ suggestions etc, that it may be put in the olympics (2012??), just for a one off. Would be great if it was.I would imagine it being run something a uci event. Then, hopefully you wouldnt get as many people going " whats that you do, bmx?" Or if they do, you could just say, its an olympic sport! wooo.Ok rambled on a bit. Ill stop nowScott
Captain Scarlet
Meh it doesn't necessarily have to be like a competition type run, could be highest side hop, highest tap up, biggest gap etc.I think that it would be awesome to see some kind of trials in the Olympics or in the media. matt rushton
Can't see it happening really. Think about the size of the sport comperd to bmx. And BMX has never been in the olympics.Would be cool though!Matt Rushton
Ash-Kennard
yeah but bmx is hard to step up, ramps n shit, unless its flatland, but thats a tiny sport. whereas trials is getting huge and is easy, say sidehop competitions over a rail, or a moveable structure which raises and lowers for taps n shit

I dont know why bmx finally got accepted to olympic status, but i dont buy the idea about how much money the sport makes, which trials still has a chance to promote itself. its just a matter of time...Maybe we need a JUMP LONDON style tv documentary on bikes or something. Rusevelt
bmx race is going to become an olympic event, i think even for 2008Yeah it be should at Begjing 2008, but not for London 2012. Why? your guess is as good as mine, but i bet it is something political, commercial, and involves money. The size of a sport shouldnt apply anymore because society and attitude has changed, hense london hosting the first Para-olympics (spelt wrong i know). If a dedicated sport like trials, which has an international fan-base following with competition events, that should be reason enough to be promoted to olympic status. but of course, this is THE REAL WORLD were dealing with here and there is alot more to it. Commercial issues are a big key factor when it comes down putting money into a tech sport like trials. still, weve got 4-5yrs to prove our worth before we give up for ghost.
