(where you have a little thing on your cam so you can place your flash gun somewhere take a photo and it will flash without being attached to the camera)

and I wants one

I just need some information on them like, which are good? whats a reasonable price to pay for one etc etc

i need one to fit a Canon EOS 350D....

any help appreciated (Y)

I know on a normal digital camera you can just buy a slave cell for about £10-15 but with DSLRS they are different.

As a normal (non slr) digital camera just fires the flash at the same time as the shutter the slaves work, they detect the flash from somewhere else and then trigger the flashgun that they are attatched too (off camera)

DSLR's fire pre flash so it would pick up that and fire at the wrong time as the shutter. ie, out of sync. (I think anyway)

I know with the Nikon system if you have the right camera and a nikon or sigma flashgun you can just press a few buttons and have it running wireless without any extras.

I think the Canon system is slightly different though as you have to buy an extra? I think thats what Chris Ratcliffe told me anyway. Ask Fat Mike (Y)

If you wanna try out remote flash, without spending too much money, then get a set of these. They're not bad, and work well at short distances, just not great once you get more than a couple of metres away (certainly not at higher speeds).

Another option is to run a remote camera flash cord, such as this one, you'll maintain full ETTL exposure with that and your flash. This'll be great if you don't need it much further than a few feet away (such as holding it with one hand, or on a flash bracket).

If you wanna go full whack, then get a set of Pocket Wizards, I got some a little while ago, and they're excellent. Fire up to 1600 feet, and can be used to trigger remote flash(es) or your camera(s) remotely. They're not cheap (cheapest is £240 a set), but they're damn good - allowing me to get shots like this:

Where I was a fair distance away from the rider.

Hope this helps.

Mike. :)

(P.s. If you're after the set I linked you to originally, I've got a set for sale which I don't plan on using. They'd be £18 from eBay (Hong Kong), would do 'em for £13 posted. (Y))

Edit: Oh yeah, of course the easiest (although probably most unreliable) way, is if you're using a flash with a light trigger, then you can position it away, and use the pop-up flash to set off the remote one. This is okish if it's dark and you're fairly close to it, but in daylight and at slightly longer distances, it's gonna fail! :)

Those ebay wireless kits arent camera specific. I've got 3 recievers for my 3 flash's. Would have cost me about a grand for PWs, £35 for the ebay ones ;) I know therye not as good, but they do for now until i'm rolling in the benjamins.

For those that care, you can see all my kit here,

OH! In answer to the original question, get a Sigma EF-500 DG Super, £127 from onestop-digital.
