Hendrix
Just spent ages re-aligning my brakes on the bike. Halfords had done it SO badly, I mean, RUBBISH! CRAP!!!!I'd got them to the right tention, to then find that the handle bar lever for the brakes is also knackered... Brand new 3 months, FROM HALFORDS!So, I'm going to replace the handlebar, and both brake levers on the handle bars. I've currently converted half the bike into a single speed, slowly getting there! Any tips on how to get certain things done, are VERY needed. LIKE :How to patch up the blooming great hole on the bike, where the stem use to go....HELP ME! I think I need it

Hendrix
I'm using a Claud ButlerBASICLY - Where the stem/saddle usually goes, is now coming off. There will be a big ole' hole in there, and I need to know some sort of way to block it up. Welding seems too much hassle, as I don't know how to. craigjames
ok so your just taking the seat post out and leaving the open seat tube? your best bet would be to get a plastic mini seat, but being perfectly honest you really are so much better off looking for a cheap second hand stock frame and building up a bike from that, check the for sale sections and the old wonder of ebay. one of the lads who's just started riding here just bought a basic trials bike off ebay for 100 quid. its not great, but its enough to start on and its gonna be a darn sight stronger and easier to ride than your modified butler.just an idea
Hendrix
I'm just not spending any money, incase I don't enjoy the trials as much as I use to......bear in mind, I havn't ridden since I was 12 .... 5 years on... you'know. craigjames
hmm thats fair enough, its just gonna be an absolute bugger to mod that butler and it really wont ride too well at all. but hey good luck with it
Hendrix
I'm only riding it, untill I get back into it, and enjoy it.After then, I'll buy a propper bike for £200 ish, and get going

poopipe
if only it was that easy!lolyouve kinda got a point there but i reckon he could get a 2nd hand frame for around £100 and spend the other ton on stuff like tyres, rear rim, some brake pads and v-adaptors. itd certainly be start on the way to a trials specific bike.in the meantime I'd just slam the seat as far as possible, get that rear brake sorted and piss around with the setup until it feels good - its not like you can't ride trials on a standard mtb frame. Simpson
Im totally behind what your doing think its a cracking idea and sounds like good fun hacking bits apart and gluing them back together! however the bike WILL ride gash.... even with new bar, stem rear hub whatever it will be gash! total pile of shit! i mean build up the bike but it really wont inspire you to start up trials everything will be bloody impossible even if you can get it off the floor. And if you can get it off the floor the frame will crack really quickly and so spending money on that bike is pretty pointless. i mean if you have 400quid to invest in a bike dont forget you wont actually loose too much money if you want to sell it on at a later date you may only loose 10-50 quid which is a lot less than you trying to build up THAT bike.I sold my good spec echo control 06 for 460 quid and it was a total beut prefect runner, disks, maggies, sooo nice and a joy to ride... so if you have the money to invest id go for that!! Tomm
What's actually wrong with the levers and/or the bars? I don't really see how a bar can be broken, in which case it'll be snapped in two and it won't be anything to do with the brakes.
Hendrix
the levers are just rotten on the inside.I'm not spending any money on this bike. Everything I put on, is free stuff. Taken off of other bikes. I'm just gona be using this bike til I can afford a propper one. The bike weighs less than a standard BMX, so it's pretty light... it'll be even lighter once I've done a few things to it.But don't worry, the frame won't crack, I don't ride hard Yet

A lot can happen to parts in 3months you know...so don't just blame where you got the levers from. - The bike could've been left outside, rusting the levers (if they're steel), or the bike could've been dropped, and bent or generally fooked the levers. You'll be a lot better off buying a second hand stock, than trying to learn on that...you'll find it easier to ride, and enjoy riding, instead of having loads of problems with your current bike. fyfey
Nice, I'm currently doing the same sort of thing... riding a Claude Butler Rock It's just my normal MTB so has a lock + lights on etc. I just take the seat post out, take the lights + lock off. I'm a noob so only just started hopping on the back wheel. It's pretty damn heavy and big for trials but I've got an Echo Control '07 frame on the way Hopefully it should be a bit easier to ride when it's built up

Jez
I'm just not spending any money, incase I don't enjoy the trials as much as I use to......bear in mind, I havn't ridden since I was 12 .... 5 years on... you'know.I did exactly that.Trust me, you'll love it.Having said that...having a crap bike to ride can put you right the f**k off ever riding again...at least make sure you ride someone else's rig on a regular basis so that you realise that it's not necessarily YOU that's the problem, it's more than likely the bike.Seriously, I'm an oldschool guy at heart, but that frame is HUGE. Must be like riding mount Everest.Anyway, cheap Avid V's, TA26 is you're going stock or Onza/Saracen if you're going mod, Wellgo DMR copy pedals and you're laughing mate. Seriously, your enjoyment of trials will double and then some with a decent bike to ride it on.
