Gilman
I am looking into getting some new cranks, I really want middleburn's, but I live in the USA and no one over here carries them and I don't want to buy them over sea's. Though I may have too.Well anyways i was looking at the Race Face DH isis cranks with a blackspire bash, does anyone use these or heard of any problems with them?Any breaking or stripping, or anything good or bad? Thanks for all the help.Gilman. sUm
Hey I've been using Raceface evolve isis DH's for about a year and a half I guess.Pros: Take a serious beating, pedal threads and tapers are rock solid.Cons: I can't find a bashring smaller than 32 tooth that will fit it (I only run a 22 tooth chainring).Overall I'm quite happy with mine. If you have any specific questions about them feel free to PM me. Edited February 1, 2007 by sUm

Jamie_Neal
Tim Steadman uses the Diablous ones and he hasn't had any problems as yet and personally I can recommend the Shimano Saints (although I've only used them for a couple of weeks) as they feel sooo much stiffer than Middleburns ever did. As for the bashguard, the Blackspire looks lovely on the Saints. I never thought I'd recommend Shimano parts to anyone especially over Middleburn. As for the Race Face they look equally as good and they take a battering.
Matthew62
I used to run raceface cranks, pro's are that they're very stiff, but the bashguards are so oversized. You can get a 22t bashguard as i used to run one, but if the cranks are 4 arm (which they usually are) then even a 22t bashguard will be huge. Also every set up ive used with raceface, wether it be 22t chainring and bashguard, or 32t and bashguard or 34t single ring, every ring and bashguard i've used has had to be filed due to the profile of the cranks. I find raceface cranks really annoying to use (4 arm) if you've got some 5 arm ones then you might get one great with them! Heatsink
If I was in the USA and fancying some Middleburns I would consider picking up some second hand on TF. There are often ones for sale with them being such a popular crank in the UKSteveUsed Race Face TurbineDH Cranks! bowed them in about 6weeks! Race Face for the loose! Gilman
Cool thanks guys.I know that the black spire bash is slightly larger then the truvative bash, which kinda sucks.I was thinking of trying to get some used middleburn's from here somewhere, the problem I think I will have is who ever would be selling them won't want to ship them all the way over here. Now about the Saint cranks, Do they fit a standard BB size, because I thought they were only 83mm or something like that. Am I wrong? Thanks again,Gilman.

You could pick up some really decent burns for 50 - 60 Ukpounds on TF with bashguard and 22t sprocket, 50% of retail. Postage to the states, you could have them sent standard airmail (no insurance) for a few pounds, or Insured for nearer £10. Eitherway the postage added on won't break the bank for you and won't be a pain for the seller.I'm pretty sure that Martyn A still runs RaceFace cranks (as he has for many years) because he lent me a set with the motivation of me looking at designing a new bashguard for the future. The first time I'd actually seen a set up close and I think they're beefy and look the part although I can't speak of any experience running them long term. Plenty of other Ashton supported riders seem to prove that they're well upto the job! The downside is the limit on how small the bash can be, as others have pointed out.Steve
26inch
Ive run turbine lp's for ove a year and theyre mint, i prefer them to middleburns anyday. As for the larger bash, I expected it to be a problem (I also expected the huge arms to be a problem) and as yet I haven't noticed much difference - although I do try and use neither. I will have to get them from over there, because those are not available over here.Is that Filthy bash pretty small considering? Is it smaller then the Blackspire granny god? Thanks again,Gilman. Is he sponsored by them? Anyway, Middleburns are the favourite in the UK for good reason, but perhaps the exchange rate shifts the balance in terms Race Face? I use Raceface Northshore XS's and there awesome.I am looking mainly at the evolve dh cranks.I was waiting till I could find them in good shape for as cheap as I could. Which I may have found them for $25.00 USD plus shipping, they look good from what I can see. Though I need to get a bash ring, but that is 1/4 of the cost of middleburn's.Gilman. Embarassingly I can't remember the name of the manufacturer and it's not to hand at the moment. I will dig it out and can send a photo if you're interested in it. Great condition and never used by me except for looking at the design.Steve
