Wright Pads
I've had 2 Vauxhall Corsa's. Flaire 1.4 and then a GSI 1.6. The Falire need working doing, everything need i got from Halfords. It took a weekend to do it and nothing spechail needed at all. Cheap to run. GSI was mint, needed oil thats it and shifted like a bat out of hell. Only downer was insurance is costly as both hot hatches. £1800+ insurance and not even fully comp 3PFTFord. 1st was a MkIII 1985 2.8i V6 Capri. Needed a clean, a service, mot, tax and tune. Mind i got it for £20 so meh. For a nearly 22 year old car it still runs mint and goes nuts. Wet weather and roundabout, im the drift king.Escort 1.8 TD, £10 is all she cost me. Saw it parked up and this old man needed it gone. It did not want to kick over. Mate and me took it away, charged battry, had a play draine the lines, cleaned them out and toped it back up. Vrommm soon as the key turn't. We then stripped the gubbing out of her, everything that was not needed to be legal went out the thing. it was very loud, roar, cold, empty but oh man did it go some. Wivked road legal rally car and. Found a guied online on how to up the boost presure so we though £10 and 2 hours work, wicked toy so far lets she what we can get out of it. Wacked it up some and enjoyed the ride. raced her at Castle Comb and then Santapod and did rather well. Sold her on ebay for £1000, £990 invesment, £90 went on the beers between Toby nd my self. Insuance was so dirty cheap £150Siera 4x4, i got this beasty for £250 and my it was a dream, 4x4, huge torge and pulling, bikes, kids etc easy in and out. Insance was high on her sadly £500 but it was a nice car even for the age. Fiesta Zetec S, ooo baby did she move. Had a HKS turbo fitted and raced it a lot. sadly i missed judged soemthing and plowed her into a wall round a corner. Had a mate behind in my ST24 and i jumped cars asap and ripped out the gubbings. Called the old bill saying she was nicked and i just got home from work blah blah. I pulled it off got a huge payout. She cost £3k for the turbo kit to be fitted and all the tuning. Insuance was £900ST24, 2.5 V6, bought this for £500 cash and was valude at £8,500. Does go more than anyhting i know of localy. Cam belt is an ass to change but only cos of the big lump in there. Cost load to run as she drink but i make her drink a lot due to a drilled air box, 32mm hole and lots of them, as well as an air temp sensor mod. Insurance now for me on her is £300 full comp a year.Focus RS, was a present to my self. saw it in the paper for £10k, talked the gu down to £8.5k. Nowt more to be said that she was a wicked car, never had any problems. Well not till a spin on the motor way when someone hit the back of it and she was a right off. Insuance paid full outFocus ST. I just got given this as it was left to me in my brother will. I've only just got out of plaster and not ment to be driving but have had a play quickly and i mean quickly. Love the hidden extras like red back lights at night or when the doors open foot well is red. Of corse it is the orange one. Insurance on this baby is less than my ST24 @ £250. Again fully comp as it;s all i use.Currently have a few of the fords still - Capri, ST24, Focus ST and a Mazda RX8Nowt wrong with a ford. Again can do it all at home but has never once died on me. I rag them, mod them, crashed them and walked away. Insuance is cheap as is running. All parts easy to get and cheap. Vauxhall sucks full stop but the GSI was f**king cool and modded a lot in the end.I prefer my capri over anyhting but the Focus ST is screaming out to me still and im awaiting to play
Muel
fiesta turbo! and all cossies! i love the 3 door saffies I really don't like vauxhalls, but the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 has to be one of the nicest cars ever, I'm not too keen on all the modern ones, st24s and all them. tom 20
All the old fords like the sierra and escort cosworths are ace (and Capri ) but all the new models apart from the sport versions are poo! quality really goes downhill. but i think the vauxhalls are good cars, especially the corsa 1.8 sport, they are cool. Or the Astra 2.2 turbo
Bucky
my opinions:i work at ford but i run a vauxhall and always have done.i see it this way they are both equally good mfr's and both have their good points.and their bad notes too. it all comes down to personal preferance.i like the focus but i love the astra'si like the fiesta but i prefer the corsaeach to their own but id go for vx allday long. paul-m-
its got to be ford. fords are the way forward escpecially is it has cosworth in the name, but i must admit the latest modles are letting the side down. i dont no what favourite one would be though i reckon it would be between a wrc mk3 1700t, martin hadlins old and new escorts and his mondeo or a mint mk5 radiant red rs 2000 4x4 with an escort cossie engine and wide wings. a well thats me done enough dreaming for one day. Vauxhall sucks full stop but the GSI was f**king cool and modded a lot in the end.u do realise the flaires, hardly a hot hatch, and giving the fact that you payed £1800 insurance on it TPFT, and are now paying £250 on an ST, is nothing to do with fords being cheaper on the insurance, its down to your age, and experience(even if it as an experienced crash test dummy, but the insurance dont know), and no claims. also whats the £35,000 car you were saying you bought the other day. clearly wasnt your capri or ST24, and cant see an RX8 costing that much right now.and you didnt have to pay for your ST, which wouldnt be £35,000 either. you got a secret car your hiding up your sleeve here or something??but still there pretty nice motors. although not wanting to get into an argument. dont think your "performance" mods on your ST24, have done it any good, other than make it roar more, and use more fuel. air temperature mod is a resistor placed across the 2 sides. so its telling your engine your drawing in the coldest air the sensor can read, so it adds more fuel(As cold air is denser, and its trying to keep the magic 14.7:1 air:fuel mix) so its just going out of perfect combustion, and overfuelling. and then not only that, your drilling an airbox, so warmer air from the engine bay, as opposed to the cooler air being ducted into the airbox.is being put into the engine, which is less dense. so your putting warmer air than normal into the engine, but telling it your putting colder air than normal in. sounds like a way to waste a tank of fuel in a short time, for no real performance gain. my 2 cents on the subject. 90's and onwards, for play around cars(well up until 2004) cars, that are fast, fun,and predictable on the handling, the vaux have got it hands down. astra gsi's,nova's and corsas(yea they got the chav image, but there predictable, fast for what they are an low cost).last couple of years, for fast cars. think ford are coming back over vauxhall. st220 beats the veccy GSI hands down(and i have drove both). new fiesta feels a lot nicer than the new corsa(again have driven both). focus ST ive only ever parked one up off a ramp at work, but seems to be favourable over the astra turbos.and pre 90's is a ford win again. xr2, xr3i, xr4i+xr4x4i, capri.rs tubby. all seem to beat the vaux rivals of there day. so in my eyes depend what kinda age car your looking at. and if your not looking at them for fun. then both companies make respectable daily drivers, and in that its down to simple stuff, like where your lights/stereo/other aux controls are, which seats suit you best. as all engines will cruise at motorway speeds these days. darrenhopper
Who's really that pushed? It's like asking if you'd prefer a turd sandwich or a giant douche! And if we're talking about hot hatches, look no further than the French! They build mundane, excessively safety conscious cars all year long in the hope that the engineering department gets to do a silly car. Then **BLAM** we have another 200+ horse power hatchback that weighs in around the tonne. Then to take it a little further they make their cars handle the way only an exciting French car can. Beat that! And yeah I know that means you end up with French electrics but, & it's a BIG but, no-one that's driven it cares! And since everyone else is at it I'll list my previous cars.1. Opel Corsa 1.02. Ford Fiesta 1.253. Peugeot 306 1.44. Peugeot 306 2.05. Renault Megane 225 2.0t 6.
