depending on how hard it is /how long it will take, between £150 and £350 including parts.

the clutch for my golf was £30, and i fitted it myself! took ages, and was a proper bitch to do.

this guys got it right, should imagine a clutch kit at trade price, would be about £25 or so for a cheap jobby, whichll do the job just dandy. but you gotta factor in the garage will most likely charge, £45 for this clutch, then 2.5 or so hours labour for fitting it, at whatever the rate is round your end. although if your willing to undertake it yourself, itll cost you nothing, other than the skin on your knuckles, and your sanity.

well although I know how it works and ive never touched a car mechanically wise, do i stand a chance of doing it?

I mean, I take the push bearing + protector plate + clutch disc off, and pop the new ones on? :S unless i need to change the flywheel too?

god it sounds so easy.... :S

lol, sounds so simple dont it. and heres the thing, technically everything on a car spare a few things, is nuts and bolts. on the most part, being a mechanic isnt like being an artist, anyone can do any of the jobs a mechanic can do on a car, with the right instructions, the right tools etc, but the main consideration is time, i can do a headgasket job on a corsa, but itll take me about 7 hours, itd take my mum a month of sundays, theres blokes in our work who could do it in 5, and theres people probably elsewhere, that can do them in 4.25 ish.

having never touched a toyota gearbox in my life.i wouldnt know how awkward it is to do it on them, but if you got patience, some basic tools, and a haynes manual, and a mate whos a mechanic on the end of the phone if it all goes tits up, so he can come sort it, its well in the realms of the home mechanic to do it himself. im by no means a good mechanic, but wouldnt hesitate attempting it myself in say a 6 hour period, giving yourself a weekend, and a bit of help off a mate, im sure you could do it well within the 2 days, possibly 1.

you seem to be no-where near.

Its a Japaneese car, the parts are going to be more expencive.

To put it into some perspective, to have a clutch replaced on a Ford Fiesta or Focus where I work (Ford Main dealer) costs just shy of £500

somewhere like MR Clutch ect would be chaeper, but not massivley. Also remember its not as simple as buying just the clutch and fitting it, there is a list of other parts needed, like fluids and locks nuts ect.

Sure MK2 Golf or something similar would be cheaper, but thats because its old, and very easy to fix. Toyotas arent known for their ease of repair......

erm. retail price on a clutch kit appears to be around £55 -£65, so trade price, i reckon £30-£35 trade price(none genuine, uni-part/delphi or the like). its a clutch kit, itll come with pressure plate, clutch plate, thrust bearing. what else do you need. 1/2 litre of brake/clutch fluid, £4ish? wheres all these lock nuts you need to do a clutch, cant think of them myself. only thing you may need is an alignment tool, but ive seen it done several times, using a finger, and its worked just as well, just took 2-3 minutes longer.

where i work, as escort clutch, would set you back around £240-£260. which is almost half the price of what you reckon it would cost on a similar engined vehicle at a main dealer.

as for toyotas not known for there ease of repair, is a liteace not a mid engined RWD van, gearbox with one output shaft, running perpendicular to the vehicle, behind the engine. as opposed to a focus, where youll be removing washer bottles, engine mounts, etc, to get at the bellhousing bolts. sure a FWD car will be so much easier?

The lock nuts ect are from my Ford Experience, Not saying that every car needs them, but its best to factor things like that in when getting a price for it.

Fords you have to replace the Bearing carrier plate and nuts, the lower arm ball joint nuts and bolts, and fill with freash gearbox oil.

having never done a liteace I wouldnt know what extras you would need, but there is no point saying that it will only cost the price of a clutch if there are more parts needed.

Then if you have no mechanical know-how you will need to ay somoene to fit it.

You never know it could be as simple as a Suzuki Supercarry, and only have 2 bolts holding the gearbox on, and 2 gearbox mount bolts.
