What Shoes? I'm Stuck.

Ok, so my shoes have a hole in them, and in winter, that isn't such a great thing.

So basically, i need new shoes, but i'm after normal shoes, not those pixie boot ones.

So, the brief, normal shoes, that wont slip off the pedals, but can also be worn normally.

I currently wear etnies, but aren't as wide as normal skating shoes. Went to look at some just now, and they all seem to be wide, maybe when wearing they'll seem thinner though?

There was some etnies there with the red m/e logo and laces which i thought looked cool, but then my judgement was clouded when i thought of wearing them clubbing.

Maybe i need to buy some other shoes for clubbing, don't know.

So yeh, what do you wear, and how do you find the compromise between pedal grip, and daily comfort?

been through many styles of shoes, phat farm classics and half shells, adidas superstars, stan smiths, nike shox, reebok classics(when everyone use to ride in them, nike cortez, etc).

but right now, seem to have settled on K-swiss tongue twisters. grippy for riding, not wide enough to make it look you got orthaepaedic shoes on, casual enough for the trip down the shops, smart enough for clubs.

i got some with the camo tongue(flips over to white) and camo soles, camo heel detail. that way, there alternative enough not to look chavvy, but if you wore etnies, even the narrow ones, can see it being detrimental to you for getting into clubs, and talking to girls in clubs(half the girls i know, shoes are the first things they notice when they see someone)

only bad point, if your wearing them for riding, they come in at £55, but ive worn mine every day now since i got them in june, save probably once or twice, and there still goin strong, soles are gettin a bit worn out in places, but i literally live in them. if they wernt scuffed on top from footy etc, or even if i just chucked them in washing machine, theyd probably look reasonable enough for clubbing still.

converse chucks are good for riding if you like a thin sole.. a bit cold for real winters, but works fine in the +5 degree pansy winters you have. :P maybe a bit too scene for you, what do i know.

also, adidas stan smiths/superstars are nice for both riding and not.... everyone has them though.

anything Globe, those are not too wide, but wide enough for biking, also look smart. got a sweet pair of Globe Finale's off ebay at xmas for £30 brand new, when they are usually £45.

also don't forget those NKE 6.0, they are expensive though. I also recommend Nike Dunks. Think they are awesome shoes, but again can be quite expensive.

lol, nah we got a real winter, we got frost and everything now,and you not find superstars just a lot too bulky in the sole department??

Whichever shoes you go for, buy a separate pair for clubbing. Just a regular pair of smart slip-ons, cheapys from Burton/Next/Topman are always good. I wouldn't worry about brands as no-one looks at your shoes that attentively in a club.

I've got a pair of the Globe SWYD trainers, I no longer ride but these things are the bee's knees in terms of comfort, not too wide and the soles are pretty swank, going by what other people have said in regard to Globe shoes soles you should be ok. Although, with skate shoes I find they only feel different when you switch brands, unless you deliberatly go from skinny to chunky ones, but if you were just going from chunkyish to chunkyish within the same brand they're likely to feel the same, aside from the wearing in factor. It's then just a choice of what you want on the outside of the shoes.

With the converse chucks, if you have any kind of ankle problem these won't help/support.

any kind of foot problem at all really.. they have no damping, completely flat sole and very thin construction.. but i like mine.

superstars were fine when i rode in them.. i dont do it often though, as i have trials shoes for trials.

Damn straight, I got them aswell (although not the camo version) and they are properly comfy, I love em.

I also had K-Swiss Classics before that and they are real comfy aswell.

puma el rey £22 on the bay again very nice, im waiting for a pair

adidas galaxy 3 £13 on ebay gorgeous trainer, i bought some the other week and all's gravy

i always found skate trainers too clumsy and rode in my f**ked adidas goodyears which were nice and nimble.

not really a fan on k-swiss borrowed a mates set for riding and the soles were about as flexible as steel, pretty common too, same with phat farm for riding and there a bit wigger

just remebered evisu do a comfy brown leather/suade ttrainer which i have which are similar structure to goodyears, might be a winner on the old v8's?
