Willy
There was a thread asking about this a while back, i'll run it down. You learn way to quick, as its all crammed into that week.Usually, if you do pass, your driving will be very bad, as Tom can verify, along with countless others who have done the intensive course and f**ked up not long after at all.I believe 2 lessons a week is just right. Gives you time to memorize it all, and to not get overloaded with rules, techniques and so on.Oh right ok! Ive never heard that side of the argument before, Cheers for that Si will more than likely just do for normal lessons now, more thank likely 2, 2 hours a week Ty Willy
Matt_Tupman
My instructor was a complete twat and mad me do 30 hours! blatently just wanted the money!! Stupid seeing as I wasn't actually learning to drive just learning road rules and manner.1 minor ha! I think they should make it 5 minors or less to pass, to many people scrap a pass when they really can't drive for shit.
dave85
That wouldnt work, seeing as the most important basis round here on wether someone passes is the size of their boobs....
Matt_Tupman
That wouldnt work, seeing as the most important basis round here on wether someone passes is the size of their boobs....Well I'm sure that rule can be worked in some how eg. the higher the boob size -a minor mark, silicons and you get a major taken off! that NBR dude
I think the experience on a bike helped me loads in my car test. I have been on bikes since I was about 10 doing motoX, and then on the road on my 16th birthday and passed my full bike test on my 18th birthday. Bikes make you far more aware of the road. Its a case of if you crash, you're going to die/be hurt extremely badly, so you pay far more attention to the road, than you ever would in a car. An_toin3
I'm not 17 untill may, Which is crap!Si If I undertand that, you can't pass your test before 17 ?, as here in canada, you can start driving at 16 with your mom or dad or a supervisor for 8 months or 1 year (depends if you take lessons) so for me it was 8 months, had 12 lessons of 1 hour, and some practice with mom and dad here and there, but not that much, never had problem on the road, passed my test firs time too, and i had my license a month before turning 17 so I've been driving for 4 or 5 months now. I'm in the same case as Bigman, i drove tractors on the road when i was younger with no license
Rob_P
Had one lesson a week, 16 lessons in total and passed first time with 3 minors.Like Andy though I think being on the road on a bike definaltey helped a load! Was on a bike for two years before my driving started so that definatley helped.Got 3 yrs no claims on bike and in feb i'll have one on the car
haydon_peter
40 is the average for a male, 50 for a female. Im an average female then I had exactly 50 hours of lessons before I took my test and passed first time.Im glad that people are mentioning the fact they had previous road experience or drove with parent supervision etc... rather than just quoting the lessons, at a guess most of the people quoting low figures also had other driving experience outside of lessons. So far only one accident that involved just me, a long sweeping bend and loosing the back end, I didnt go through the insurance so am close to my 3rd year of 'no claims'
Tom Booth
I had 21 1 hour lessons and a lot of driving around with my sister in the Mini. Passed 1st time with 4 minors

rocktrials
Theres no point in even having a proper instructor lesson till you can drive round a car park, clutch control, fairly precise steering and control etc. Waste of money till you can do that imo. Had about 30 hours, passed 2nd time, after leaving a signal on, in my prehistotoric non indicator clicker equppied car.QFThad bout 6-7 hours before i even started lessons with my brother/mum to learn basics
GlynnP
About 25 hours Passed first time with just 1 minor I think It is better to have a a few more than minimumI have had a accident yet but 2 mates that passed on 15 lessons 1 has totaled his car and the other one is going to court in 2 weeks for dangerous driving and so on
Pauly
35 hours i believe, thats including the 3 hours i had before each test.I don't believe anyone can say they've had less then 10 hours and passed, unless they had driving time outside of the 10 hours, as there is a lot to learn, and i don't think 10 hours will cut it.agreed there is alot to learn and even when you learn what to do you have to loose the whole should i do it should i not do it thing, i found that was the hardest for me, i mean i think i could of took my test at 20 lessons but i really wasn't confident enough with judging traffic and trusting myself. Gives you time to memorize it all, and to not get overloaded with rules, techniques and so on.agreed on that aswell 2 lessons a week did me fine i was in no hurry to pass my test, i did 2 lessons a week and 3 when i got close to my test anymore would of just been to much and it would of been a waste of money.in total it took me 36 lessons to pass and i passed first time with 1 minor, and i feel it was for the best that i had that extra 16 lessons it really did help me alot.Paul
munkee
I had something like 24 lessons, but 12 of them were just me driving around doing nothing due to having to wait for my test to come round. I failed first time with 3 minors and 1 major due to someone going down the wrong way in a one way street and i was pulling in to said street and only looked one side. Then as i turned the other way as i was pulling out there was a car there.. totally my fault. Then 1 month later took my test again and passed with 0 minors 3 years on no crashed and no speeding stuff. woooo! STEVE-0
Passed yesterday...well happy - 2 and a half monthshad 5 lesson 2hours long = 10hours and quite abit of private practisebut passed first time with 11minors even though i drove crap - this includes the fact i took my test in brentwood where the pass rate is one of the lowest in the country at only 13% pass rate.Steve Edited January 24, 2007 by STEVE-
