CurtisRider
Righty, I'm not sure if i have left it too late, but i would quite like to go to Uni this year, but i haven't a clue where to start...Being a tit, i never listened when we were told about this stuff at sixth form as i wasn't interested:$ but now i think it would be my best moveWe had a thing called Kudos that helped point you in a few directions towards what course would suit, is there an online version? there are so many courses, i find it hard to find what i really want, then theres the whole choosing between all those universities...its a headacheAlso any links to sites that help you along the way would be appreciated, i've been googling stuff, but most of it is pretty tripeCheers dears

Dai the Socket
Your application has to be through your school.I think that although you want to go now, the deadline has passed, so loads of universities have already been giving their conditional and unconditional offers for their courses, thinking that eveyone who is applying, has.Meaning, unless you act uber quick, you're gonna be applying for courses that are already full, so you can't get an offer.I dunno how good your grades are, but if you're applying late, and have borderline grades to get in, then you're unprobable to get an offer. The best thing to do, is to find out who's incharge of UCAS (head of sixth form? someone in the office?) then ask them what you need to do.You need to get your username and password for the 'apply' area on ucas. select your courses through the course search and then send your application to referee, then get it sent ASAP. This should be no longer than 1-2 days from now to get in with a chance. What subjects do you like best, that's the best route to go down, and then have a search for places that do them, make a note of them, and once you've got 2-6, fill them out.Do you have a personal statement and referance written? I'm guessing not. If you don't, I don't think Uni is happening this year for you to be honest.Sorry..Hope I helped.Nick.
CurtisRider
hey nick, yeah i literally just read applications have to be in for the 15th January...however it does say for route b art and design course you have til march, which is quite lucky as thats the kinda thing i would like do anyway (both art and design were my strong points at school), however i'm unsure what the route b bit is supposed to mean...bit more research i guess, but i fear you are right, I've left it too long I'm not at sixth form anymore, i finished 2 years ago, so i cant go through my school now can i? i am pretty sure you can do it yourself, otherwise more mature people wanting to do further learning wouldn't be able to apply?i do still have a nearly finished personal statement+all the other bits we had to write out saved on my computer, so that shouldn't take long to edit, and i can always visit my old head of year for a reference? guineasmithpig
they always do a thing called clearing as well with uni applications. its for late applicants and people who didn't get the required grades and so on. basically trying to find you the next best placement if you didn't get onto your first choice degree or uni. so there is hope yet. i'd perhaps simply try ringing the uni department/s you are planning to apply to. they are very friendly and will always find you someone to chat to about courses and applying. our head of department is constantly under fire from people on the course and applicants. poor guy never gets a break! but he's awesome and really helpful. just get yourself out there. if you show enough of an interest, then they are more likely to remember you and your case. hell, Brunell uni rang me at 8pm at night on results day, asking ME if I'd go and study there. and i only got a B and 3 E's at A-level!best of luck, i'm sure you'll be suprised how much feed back you'll get if you speak to as many possibly sources as you canSmithy

Walleee
yeh monday was the last date for all that crap I managed to get mine sorted out this day last week, threw myself down for some courses in jordanstown, Dundee, and heriot - Watt(edingbourgh)I Have been extensivley looking for uni's in the north of wales (where all the best natural seems to be) but NONE of them offer mechanical engineering courses, which I havn't effectively done allready anyway. Might end up thorwing a few choices down for south wales, perhaps swansea but then im just going to further from home and less likely to bring my bike with me.... boon racoon
pick a good uni (in big city if you like going out) before you pick your course. at the end of the day you'll always dislike your course to some extent, so it's better to not be stuck in a place you hate too. Dai the Socket
People pick uni's on their sports facilities and nightlife in town, why not pick on the local riding?Lol, I guess those can contribute to a decision but the course should be the thing that decides it really Annyway!Yeah, good point. I guess technically, you being 19 (nearly 20 i think?), haven't you just taken a 1/2 gap year(s) as it were, and want to apply to start in 2007 but you're just unorganised? You've got to be 21 or over to be classed as a mature student. If you go to UCAS Registration and fill out all your details, I think they'll still process them - even though it's late. The only difference about Route B is that they process your applications later, and give a later deadline. I think this is mainly for people doing a diploma in art and design but I don't see why you couldn't take advantage of the later deadline of the 8th of March. Some blurb from the ucas site about Route B:Route B coursesFor courses using Route B, you can list up to three choices in alphabetical order. We must receive your application between 1 January 2007 and 24 March 2007, but we recommend that you apply by 8 March 2007 if possible. You will also be asked to indicate your first choice, second choice and third choice.
Haz
You can still apply through UCAS, however, because it is after the deadline, unis do not even have to consider you, they can throw your appplication straight in the bin, which is especially likely for the more popular courses, which will be well over subscribed by now.But if youa re interested in Art and stuff, look at some of your locla colleges, they do foundation degrees, which are two years, but you don't need to apply through UCAs and they are a well recognized qualification.I'm quite lucky, my UCAS was sent friday the 12th, and yesterday, I got my first offer, so I just hit the deadline, but allready have an offer. I'm pretty chuffed as the course I wanted to do is pretty popular. But yeah, definately go through UCAS, just don't be too dissapointed if you don't get anything. And hey, there is always clearing, but you'd still need to apply now for UCAS.
Walleee
choosing a uni where the best natural is crazy. you wont even be riding in a few years yet the idea of uni is to be set up for life.tityou gimp,I have made 4 choices of uni, jordanstown, dundee (x2) and edinbourgh, so my choices are CLEARLY nothing to do with what natural is nearby, and as I said, my choice of subject prohibit's me moving to where I think alot of the best natural is. If choosing a uni where the best natural is was what I was doing, then I'd be going to bangor in wales and studying another HND.I've rode bikes since I was 12 years old, a girlfriend led me away from them for a while but as soon as I was rid of her I was back on bike's, I seriously doubt I will 'grow out' of biking anytime soon. Village Idiot
also, how the fag do you work out how many ucas points you have? i've just been hunting up all my results papers and stuff and unless i've missed something, it doesn't say on them? There's a thingy on the UCAS website UCAS Calculator where you put in the number of A levels/GNVQs etc you got at each grade and it works it out. If it don't work, search for a UCAS points calculator on google, there's bound to be something there.
onza_kev
Find a course you want to apply to at a uni then ring up the department as somebody else said and they'l be able to point you in the right direction. People still get in without going through ucas but the uni would rather eveyrone didnt ring up so thats what ucas is for.

TomN
Right first tin first is find the course you want and then see which Uni's cover that course, or which you want to head off to. Then go on their websites and order a few prospectus books sent to you and have a good read about it. they just send them your personal statment adn that why you wanting to continue higher education and that, a CV wouldn't go a miss as well. Or you could go to the actual Uni's and try to convince them to let you in, as i know some people have tried this and have got in since they didn't get the grades or applied late. chrishayton
lol i put bristol as a choice due to the street riding and plenty of riders. right the ucas deadline was 15th of januray, however some courses deadlines are in march (arts courses, music, drama, art, photography etc ) so look into it. Go to your old college and have a word.
