Walleee
What absolute bollocks. It's made out of the same U6 as Zoo's etc. Deng claim's it's a very strong aluminium, stronger than the usual frame making aluminiums, 6061, 7075 etc.... powerz
well the dropouts on my 20" gu are very soft as when i nip the wheel bolts up they sink themselv's into the frame, My bolts are now countersunk halfway through my frame, which aint good. So in my opinion YES the dropouts on the GU frames are soft metal. Edited January 15, 2007 by powerz
GyTrials
you must be tightening them up with an 8 foot allen key the or have arms like a body builder.

andyb
At last someone who knows what they are on about, i know this is the new members section but it was getting tiring.I would have thought that everyone knew that aluminium was softer than steel. My a2 isnt even u6 and its as strong as anything, took a massive smack yesterday and it didnt even get through the paint.Andy

pav
Aluminium is a very soft metal by any standards, most thing aluminium you could punch holes in with a nail really easily. If you knock things they will dent and bend for sure but so long as you avoid too many knocks the frame will be ok because the aluminium will be strong against normal riding. The softness of the alloy only really matters for massive knocks and dents, this is more what happens in rims, not frames, so for a frame, it doenst matter too much. Wright Pads
U6 back in the day was doggy as your granmar. it would fail at any point. How ever as time goes by them that made it have found whats best to do with it. deng has and really is making amazing use of it with Pulo where you frame will be made. U6 is stornger than any alloy out there. It's light, okay not a mill spec but it's light for what you want out of it.No the dropout thing.Place one hand ether side of your head and push really hard agnest you head. See it didn't mark did it.Now get i duno 2 frying pan and do the same with the flate bases. Hurts and left marks yeah. Thats as there a harder surface. No take a file or angle grinder and roughen the hell out of them. Again press aganst your nogging and at same time twist them. It hurts, it cuts and it'll mark you face. Now you get the idea?Your bolts are sertated to grip, as you do them up they spin and cut your frame a bit. Your over doing them if there embedding there self into the framePete

See, it didn't mark did it.Now get I duno 2 frying pans and do the same with the flat bases. Hurts and left marks yeah. That’s as there a harder surface. No take a file or angle grinder and roughen the hell out of them. Again press against your noggin and at same time twist them. It hurts, it cuts and it'll mark you face. Now you get the idea?Your bolts are serrated to grip; as you do them up they spin and cut your frame a bit.
