RR_Trials
www.apple.comI am very interested in the iPhone, so i talked to my uncle in the states about him getting me one and bringing it over when he is next around, he told me that he would and that they are $500, now i know it is a little bit silly buying it in America but it is not out here until October and i need a new phone and iPod now.So, has anybody else bought a phone from the states as i would like to know...Is there such thing as Orange etc, other there because i don't want some American company as i wouldn't be able to get an English Sim card? What could i do about charging it could i gt an adapter to plug into my wall socket to turn it to an American socket.... P.s while i am on the subject dose anyone know what i could do about my iPod it is broken, basically it only plays out of one headphone i know the headphones are not broken as i have tried them in a different machine and i have tried different headphones in my iPod and it still had the same problem, my apple warranty expired two weeks ago and apple will not help me, even though my dad just bought a top of the range MacBook pro on his account and we have also purchased two other iPod videos a shuffle and 3 lots of docking stations off, of apple on the same account. I asked them how much it would be to fix and they said £160 (even though they didn't now what the problem was exactly, but any iPod hardware can be fixed for £160.) but a new iPod video is £190 anyway. I am just very annoyed because i bought it when it 1ST came out for something like £230 and I'm gutted now the sound is compromised in quality and loudness because i can only hear it through one head phone, so any help on that would be appreciated.Thankyou very much! Simon
"Hello, Apple UK support?"- "Yes sir, how can i help you?""Ah yes, my iPhone has some issues"- "Your phone which isn't even released here yet has issues?"Plus, i doubt it will even work here, as is it not made for the US, hence not being released here until atleast Oct, because we simply aren't ready for it yet? Tomm
The iPhone isn't out in the states until June or something, so there's no chance of getting one before then. Even if you could get one, you need a 24 month contract to an american network, plus it'll be locked too. So it's just not gonna happen I'm afraid. F-Stop Junkie
Several problems here methinks. You'll be paying at least $500 + 24 monthly payments of.. oooh.. fifty bucks? That's $1700 (or about £900) for a phone which won't work fully on a UK network assuming you can get it unlocked. Things like Visual Voicemail need a supporting network to run, so that won't work in the UK.I believe the phones run on GSM, so it should work OK in the UK. However, they only run upto EDGE speeds (like 2.5G instead of 3G) which - correct me if I'm wrong - isn't really supported in the UK. As a result, trying web browsing - if you can find a network to support you - would run at GSM speeds. Like 9.6kbits? Basically the experience would suck.If you can afford nearly a grand on a phone which won't work as you hope, and will look stupid by Christmas, then go ahead. F-Stop Junkie
Just to add to my don't_do_it post, I found this:"Shortly before the iPhone’s release, Dean Hall, a seven year software engineer for Motorola, explained in an email the limited usability of an unlocked phone: "When a phone is unlocked it loses its privileges on a provider's data network. An unlocked phone can make GSM calls and send basic SMS. No MMS, no Internet, no iTS. Apple would either have to reverse engineer a method to gain access to the data network (unlikely as most data networks require SSL-level security to access) or it would have to offer something different." Apple reps say the new iPhone will automatically use WiFi whenever it’s available, and use EDGE when a WiFi network isn't. But as Hall points out, even if Apple were to sell the iPhone unlocked (or users were able to unlock it without authorization), the unit would only be able to make basic calls. It couldn't do remote web, push IMAP, visual voicemail, and various other services that are key features of the device. "
RR_Trials
Oh, i saw the contract thing and ashumed that you pay £250 or whatever in contract so say £15 a mounth until you have paid off the £250, so even when it come sout in england it will be to exspensive with a contract on top i thought that would be a pay as you go type feature.Sorry for wasting you time guys! F-Stop Junkie
There has never been a phone you pay in installments. If you're waiting to get it at Christmas, expect to pay £400 for the handset, plus a contract of at least £30 a month. I doubt this handset will appear on pay as you go!
