munkee
Oh by all means accept it but the topic was more about the state of football. Why would you offer someone half a million a week just to kick a football around? the amount of money the new club is spending on him.. what are they going to expect? if they win their league they are not going to make back the amount of money they have spent on his wage as well as the others in the team. Its just completely stupid why throw money like that around for some so called "magical player" who could barely get in to the team he was before. Luke Williams!
spacemunkee your talking so much shit its unreal, i happen to be one of these so called confrence players actually am abit lower now, you have no idea what money has to do with football an what players say cause you havent been in the situation in fact its amazing your even trying to comment on it when you havent been through it, and am not goner waste my time telling you what its like cause you still wont understand, the beckham situation is your opinion, but a guarantee that to every one person who hates beckham like you do there are a good 100,000 people that love him and give him the respect he deserves. you have no idea what beckham has done for this country aswell as thousands of others read up on him before you do, i bet atleast out of that 120 million i guarantee atleast 50 million or more of that will go out of his pocket. an your on about olympic runners in dedication, dickhead they have competitions every year, they train just like footballers, footballers work really towards the world cup, its the same principals in running as it is in football the best of the best go the the olympics just like the best of the best go to the world cups its just there are more people in football than running. an for backing it up your argument isnt just, you have no proof of what your saying, whilst i do, so its simple i know more than you about this situation because football is my life not only do i watch it talk about it, i do it, i get paid for it, and as for what your saying its jealousy at the fact that you dont get as much as he does, or have done in your life what he has done. You should respect people like david beckham but you will never take the time to learn or appreciate what he has been through anyways you will reply to this with your comments which is fair thats what this forum is for but what i have said is just and proven its up to you to read up on it an maybe you will learn something, that being biased to your own opinion gets you no where.an about his wage saying they wont pay back his wage lmao they make back his wage 10 fold on one game its been recorded on average over 100,000 thousand people go watch the club beckham is at, saying it costs atleast 10 pounds to get in you do the maths lmao what a fool Edited January 12, 2007 by LukeBrisaRider

Aaaaannnnd the ticket sales will go up massively. It doesnt matter wether he plays or not they will make money from this guarenteed.i bet atleast out of that 120 million i guarantee atleast 50 million or more of that will go out of his pocket.Thats bollocks, the rest of your post was alright though, maybe try being more articulate
Jules
teams should be FORCED to cut players wages and do something more useful with the moneyThats a ridiculous idea, the clubs earning the money because there offering entertainment which people want to watch and hand over their cash for, its not like their stealing from places where its needed. If they earnt it they can do what they want with it.

Well done luke for being a substandard football player, if you are lower than conference.. feck you mase well be playing outside with your mates on a wednesday afternoon over on the local park. To put it blunt i couldnt give a crap whether you are mr football or whether you are a bloody power ranger. The figures are in this thread about his weekly earnings and the facts are i dont think that kicking a ball around a rectangular plot of land warrants such high volumes of money going in to his pocket. The topic can be argued all day long, hence why it was made. Its nice to see that there are some very opposite views.

guineasmithpig
Thats a ridiculous idea, the clubs earning the money because there offering entertainment which people want to watch and hand over their cash for, its not like their stealing from places where its needed. If they earnt it they can do what they want with it.well, in that case, i think should lower wages and ticket prices all at once. i couldn't justify paying ANYBODY £50,000 a week no matter how much the club earned in whatever sport. its just a ludicrous amount of money, and if that much money is floating round with nothing better to be spent on, i reckon they should help poorer people with it, instead of scamming them £50 or whatever it is these days for a ticket to one game.again, this is all just opinion, and obviously, there a few different ones around this post too. but firefighters and stuff should get way more than they do. yeah footballers train a lot, but firefighters practice live saving procedures day in day out, have to work different shifts where they spend time away from family (if anyone mentions the world cup, they deserve a kick. remember the phil neville thing?) and they make a REAL difference to peoples lives. david beckham has done shit all to help this country. just helped to make clubs and players and sponsor companies richer ( ok, maybe a bit harsh, as i seem to remember him doing training sessions and stuff, though thats got nothing to do with why he gets paid so much)now i know a lot of people are saying 'well you'd take it if you had the opportunity', and having lots of money would be nice, but i just can't see where they earn the right to that much money for what they do. the whole charity argument is there too, david beckhams auctions and stuff, but again, why do they get paid so much in the first place!? i just don't see it..... craigjames
football isnt a sport any more its a business, foot ball players at that level aren't just players, theyre assets and marketing and publicity for the sport and the club. david beckham is the biggest name in football, he may not be the best player, but he's the biggest name. in comparison to football in europe its small in america and a lot of the club owners are investing money into the clubs in the same way someone invests in shares; they expecta return. david beckham may not bring a huge amount of skill to the game compared to some players, but then i expect he'll still be pretty amazing none the less comparitively. but the club owners arent buying him to score goals, first and foremost its to attract people that know his name to the sport and to watch the games, buy the merchandise and spend their money.he's going to bring a huge amount of publicity to the american soccer league (or so the owners of la galaxy hope) and with a huge amount of money, so i can imagine compared to the revenue he will hopefully bring to the american league and the club his wages are small and to the club probably good value for money. so only a small amount of his wages is actually for the skills he provides on the football pitch, the majority is recognition and reward for the amount of money his name and association with the club puts in the tills.and no club ever scams the fans into paying 50 quid fora ticket, its supply and demand, im sure if one fan decides not to pay 50 quid for a ticket then another couple thousand would. if people didnt turn up to watch matches, gate prices and wages would go down to reflect this, but as gate numbers are increasing still i cant see the price stopping or the wages for that matteri really cant imagine his work schedule is too much fun. fair shouts to him. Fuse
Here's an interesting one for you then, if you seem so hell bent on singling out footballers as ludicrously high earners. What about movie stars? Tom Cruise - $75m for Mission Impossible 2Cameron Diaz - $20m Charlie's Angels 2Tom Hanks - $70m Forest GumpBruce Willis - $100m Sixth SenseI could go on, but you get the picture. Do they work any harder than top level footballers. Probably not, but their salaries are even higher, considering each of those films probably took no more than 12 months filming for each actor.Let's try a different career, what about writing. JK Rowling has reputedly earnt close to $1bn from the Harry Potter series. I wonder how much hard work that took. Hmm, ok, what about another profession, music. Paul McCartney's personal fortune of close to £1bn. Let's see, over a 50 year career that would be over £380,000 per week then, yet I don't see you singling him out as a disgraceful high wage earner. Before you start singling out footballers as the root of all evil, be aware that astronomical salaries are rife throughout the whole entertainment industry. The thing to remember is these people represent the very pinacle of their professions. For every David Beckham, Tom Cruise and JK Rowling there are many, many more people getting by on distinctly average salaries. It's the same in any profession. The average doctor/fireman/etc. gets paid a comparatively modest salary, but get to the top 1% of the profession and you'll find company directors, specialist surgeons, etc. earning vast sums of money, just as at the top of the football chain are high paid footballers, whilst the football leagues and below contain thousands of very averagely paid players.Make no mistake, players like Beckham have busted a gut to be where they are. Sure there's an element of natural talent, but at the same time you don't get to that sort of level on natural talent alone. There has to be a huge amount of dedication, training, sacrifice, etc. to achieve what he has. I for one won't begrudge what they get paid. Jealous of it of course, but if you get to the very top of whatever your chosen profession is, you deserve to be rewarded for it. Its simple.. why should they get paid that much. You cant say its because its such a big sport because its not that, the sport would work exactly the same if players were paid say £5000 a week (still twice as much as a project manager would get on a major civil engineering job which has taken over 8 years of experience and qualifications to gain). Captain Scarlet
Well Beckham loves football, and to be payed for what you love doing is great, but for that kind of money. Its amazing.I think its stupid when you get footballers complain about every little thing in footbal, but I don't see how the hell you can complain when being payed that much, its ridiculous.
