B.E.A.U
Right then I have dropped college and I am now an official bum if you likeI was studying public services, which is to get into the forces because I did want to be a fireman.I dropped college because The lessons were never about what I wanted to do they mainly talked about the RAF or armyThe lessons were cancelled allot so I got up early travelled 20 mins on a bus walked 15 mins for f**k all.I got that bored and depressed that when I went there I sat there playing with paper drawing bikes and wishing I were ridingNothing took my fancy at all I mean im an active person and it was all-boring walking camping I mean I hate that stuff. Then we went mountain biking they shouted at me for that because I slaughtered there bikes and I said you should of let me take my own. There is just some of the reasons why I quit basically it wasn’t for me.Anyways my rents will not shut up about me getting a job. They don’t believe me at all or anything. I even went out with 25 cvs and come back with 6 they still don’t believe I went to look for a job. They keep on I will be in a dead end job etc because I dont know what I want to do in life yet.But my teachers at college told me different they said things like well you can always start a new course next year etc basically giving me positive words and sending me to a career advisor to help me also. But they make out its the end of the world. I have told them im 100% sure ill go back in September and I will but im not sure what I want to do still. Imp not very bright so my grades are low.But ok my dream is to be a model (sounds gay but owell) but I don’t know how to go about that what to do etcAlso I wouldn’t mind being a lifeguard. I told my dad and he said awesome then he went on about what to I do in winter etc no people on the beach and all that.So I said a bricklayer he didn’t say much to that just stuff like where you going to go etc.Basically imp not sure what I want to do but that course I was on made me want to kill my self and rents are stressing me out and just wondering if anyone could point me in the rite direction or anything like thatThank you Beau xxx
Wrayvon
Also I wouldn't mind being a lifeguard. I told my dad and he said awesome then he went on about what to I do in winter etc no people on the beach and all that.Well in response to that part, you could be in an indoor life guard, i.e at a swimming pool. There all year round jobs so thats a positive.Maybe You need to let your parents know you want to control your life, encourage them to ease off your back a tad, it will help you a lot. Basically show them you are focused on what you want to do (when you find out what you want to do that is) and they should leave you to it more, rather than pushing you and anoying you.Wray
Lee Cable
Right, about your public services thing. Im in the SCC, and i am being given the opportunity to get a btec in public services with cadets? If your in a cadet force, ask about that. Careerwize. Model, go for it. Get some pictures taken, send them off to some places. See what they have to say. If you get any critisizm, take it on board and try and make it.Lifeguarding, surely you can get a job in a pool? Im sure that will cater all year round?I am also currently in a dilema, Im 17, i should be on my last year of A levels, but as i had to retake english, i have only just started my AS levels. Im sick of school and find it positively horrible. Im going to see about joining the marines, but they may tell me that if i stayed on another year, got alevels, that i would be able to go in as an officer, and get payed more. But if i do this, i might aswell goto university as everyone says uni is awesome! , i hate trying to figure out what i need todowith my life it sucks

RobinJI
One of my mates is doing an aprenticeship in Health and Fittness as a Lifeguard. Might be worth looking into.
tom s
Well up here indoor lifefuards pay is better, I've just passed my NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) a few months ago, and could be on £7.18 per hour, but ain't been able to because I wrecked my knee playing rugby. It costs £220 for a 5 day crash course with a pool exam and theory exam on the last day. It involves timed swims, one is 2 lengths/50m clothed in under 60 seconds, then a 20m swim to a body, and 20m tow back to the wall in 60 seconds, then a 20m swim out to a body, turn the body onto it's back, and tow 10m in 45 seconds, fromwhat i can remember. You also need to be able to reach the floor of the pool and recover a body fist time. You will be tested on this at any pool you apply to, unless it is shallower than the one that you have on your qualification sheet. There is quite a bit of lee-way on this bit, you can be a bit bad at some of the points in it, but you need to be perfect on the spinal work that you do, as it is life or death stuff. In the theory part you are tested on primary first aid, as in bandagnig up people, what to do with certain breaks etc. Again, theres is lee-way here, but you also do CPR, which must be done perfectly. It's a relatively easy course to pass, providing you are a half decent level swimmer. However, for being a beach lifeguard up here, you tend to get less pay (around £5.15), and the course is more intense, due to the sea being unpredictable etc, and it's called the NBLQ, National Beach Lifeguard Qualification. Don't know much about that one to be honest. Also, you need to keep up the training throughout the duration of the qualification, which lasts 2 years. You need to have 20 hours of training in the 24 months that is lasts, and employers expect you to do an hour per month, just to make sure that you are kept up to date.So yeah, it's a canny job like, just wish i could actually sime at the minute so I could do it/ do training, bloody knee Hope that's been of some help mate Tom

tom s
Ogre, you only have to be 16 in some places to do the full thing like I did. Oh yeah forgot to mention in me first post that if you want to carry on doing it after 2 years, then if you have the 20 hours of training you can just resit the test that you had to do to pass first time. However, if you haven't managed to get the 20 hours in, you have to do the whole 5 day course again. The place you work at sometimes pays for it that time around if they want to keep you employed though.
Fish-Finger-er
beau, your dads saying wheres a brick layer gunna get you, brickies rate these days on per brick basis is 30p a brick, a good brickie can lay in excess of 120 bricks an hour. thats £36 quid an hour. many contract places pay a flat rate of £25-£35 an hour, often supply you with vans etc. its a skill that will help you in life financially(i.e apart from having a job bringing in 50k a year. you can build your own house for peanuts, and being in the trade, will have mates who are plumbers, sparks, chippies etc, so will fit it all out at mates rates providing you do the same)
