ian
right, ive got 165 bb7's front and rear,im running clarkes cables frotn and rear with avid SD7 levers.my problem is they arent bitting as good as my old BB7's have been and before i was running cheap levers and cheapo cables and my old 160 was much better.the difference bettween my old BB7's and my new ones seem to be the rotor, now i have some roundagon rotor where as before i had a rotor with alot more holes in,is it the rotors that are the problem or something else, ive set them up correctly and even had my boss at bike shop take a look and he has said it may have something to do with the rotors.ive tried the old trick of pouring water on them when they are hot etc but this has had no effect.please help!cheers ian

Orgun_Donor
im running the second rotor and its working fine, but mine is a 203 on a stock..... so i guess that doesnt help that much
Dan6061
Sure your rotor's not contaminated?(if you have one), Put it in the dishwasher overnight. I had one of those roundagon rotors, and changed to a Hope Gothic - As it looks better. Brake was soo much better.
ian
im not joking these brakes are like 2 weeks old i fitted them only touching the middle of rotor and havent touched them since. except rode them which no luck as the braking power is useless
mat hudson
i hasve a 203 on my stock with that rotor and its perfect. 203 on a stock is less leverage than a 160 on a mod.
RobinJI
Yeah, there's a good change it is the rotors, the higher surface area means a lower pressure is exerted between the pads and rotor, so the break doesn't work as well, well according to leeson that's how it works. It also has a lot to do with the build of the rotor, but I can't remember how. Just get some nicer rotors, like some hopes or Hayes. My free ride bikes breaks work much better with the Hayes rotors than they ever did with shimano deores. Damon W
i had no.2 at first as it came standard with the brake...worked AMAZING had no bite but cudnt make it slip, hold was ridiculas ......then cos it has about 6 arms it bent, bukkled and finally snapped... then i bought roter no 1 the cleansweep becuase alot of peeps i knew had them and theres worked good and its stronger...but...my brake was neva as good with this roter on, i was always havin to apply water to it, becuase it started slipping all the time
ian
both brakes are slipping all the time, i need a definate answer really as dont wanna splash out like £50 on new rotors to still have the same problem,i have always been led to believe that you have loads or holes because it stops the pads glazing and over heating. RobinJI
In my opinion you're gunna get the best results from a pair of hope rotors. Leeson or hope originals. But I've always liked the old style M4 rotors the best.
ian
what about the hope gothic rotors? and are they the new m4 rotors?
Dan6061
Pour some water on them, ride around with the brake rubbing untill you see it steaming, then pour more water on.

RobinJI
what about the hope gothic rotors? and are they the new m4 rotors?Hope gothic rotors are awesome aparently, cirtainly look it, but i think they have to be one off due to some kind of copywright. The Old style M4 rotors are different to the newer ones.Old M4:Gothic:Newish Mini:Latest M4:THIS is what you'd need for your breaks, if you wanted the old M4 style ones. As the actual old M4 ones only come in 165/185/205, but they did this to fit other breaks that use 160 or 203.Edit: Just noticed, your profile still says stock by the way. loffa
It's not a problem with your rotor, unless you have got any oil on it. I had the same problem with mine. Xtr lever, cable and hosing and a 203mm bb7 on the front of a stock bike and I could not get it to work properly. It was okay, but compred to my mates 185mm it didn't bite at all. I tried everything, cleaning the rotor and heating the pads in an oven then bedding it in again but with no luck.So finally I got new pads from my LBS and since then it has been the best front brake ever. I suggest you to concider buying new pads aswell before you fork out the £50 for new rotors. Even if they don't make a difference, then atleast you have new pads that you can throw right in when your old ones wear out.
ian
me and my boss were looking at them and it turns out that the pads are fine it is just the rotors are scrubbing the first coat of the pads like the glaze on them, gonna ring hope and see if i can get osme gothic rotors through work etc. ill kee p you all informed.ill edit my profile now aswell
Ali C
I have the new hope m4 rotor and its mint! the braking band fits avid bb7s perfectly and my brake is amazing. Before that I had reall trouble trying to get it to work, I tried loads of pads and a few rotors, I eventually got that rotor as well as some organic avid pads and it was the best thing I ever did!
