TomR
Some people do talk nonsense. And as for the changing lanes, it does work. Yes they can still check your speed across lanes, but due to the amount of funding they had to test these things, they weren't tested properly when measuring speeds across lanes, therefore you cannot be prosecuted. sfboy
Planetxpimp is right, they haven't been calibrated for traffic changing lanes. The problem with these cameras is that these cameras seem to be in the most ridiculous of places, or enforcing blantenly crappy limits such as large open twin lane highways where the limit is something like 50, ridiculous. The picture of the motorway with the '40' signs on the overhead gantry on the previous page proves my point. The cameras are linked to the signs, so the limit is always changing. WTF!Drivers should not have to be concerning themselves with these traps. They should be concentrating on the road and driving suitably for the conditions. - You wouldn't do 60 round a blind bend on a country lane, even though it's legal. The fact of the matter is drivers aren't been allowed to drive appropriately, around my area a kid was killed when he lost control and hit a speed camera. He was probably speeding, yes, but the fact he panicked and hit the thing killed him.Far more people are hit each year by drink drivers and those without tax/mot/licence/insurance.Basically the statics indicate that speed is often a minimal contributing factor in causing accidents, yet the speed traps are contributing to a major distracting factor. ian
i was nearly done other day on the A130 near me which is a dual carrage way, i was coming home doing 75-80 with no one else on the road and there was a couple of cars in a lay by so carried on normal speed and was then pulled over by undercovered cop but all he wanted to see was my provisional etc and my accompanying drivers license, but speed cammeras are just police cash machines, dont personally think we sohuld have speed cammeras. but if anyone is worried about getting caught get yourself a sat-nav with cammera detector or sometihng like that. F-Stop Junkie
Drivers should not have to be concerning themselves with these traps. He was probably speeding, yes, but the fact he panicked and hit the thing killed him. They should be driving suitably, but a lot arn't. I think this is a big problem, as some people care about their driving, while others do enough to pass the test then drive to some appalling standards. Driving down the motorway a couple of weeks, the rain and visibility were so bad I was down to maybe 50-55mph. Cars streaming past doing 80 or 90... Heck, I was aquaplaning badly at some points, and to be honest probably going too quickly for the conditions. Going 70 would have been legal, but totally inappropriate.'wouldn't do 60 round a blind bend on a country lane'? I bet some people do, even though they shouldn't, and some end up dead. What annoys me about speed cameras is their indiscriminate nature. Doing 70 inappropriately? Nothing. Do 85 on a clear day, good visibility and no traffic, and you could get three points and a fine. I'd rather be pulled over by a policeman, told I'm being a twat, and then either being penalised or sent on my way more carefully. Plus being pulled over is a lot more random than speed cameras, even mobile ones. As the Minister from Transport once said "We paint them yellow, put up signs telling you they're coming, put a list of their locations on our website, what more do you want?" Do 85 on a clear day, good visibility and no traffic, and you could get three points and a fine.Yeah, they should do what they do in France. All the signs by the motorway have one limit for dry and one for wet, so if it's raining you have to go 20 kph or whatever slower. Which makes sense. The motorways are the only speed limits I disagree with. I never break limits around town or whatever, but on the motorway I usually take 80 as a guide and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person. The problem is that because so many people do this, the limit becomes a farce and like F-stop said, if they were to raise the limit, some people would go much faster. Fish-Finger-er
Yeah, they should do what they do in France. All the signs by the motorway have one limit for dry and one for wet, so if it's raining you have to go 20 kph or whatever slower. Which makes sense.yea trouble is then, drawing the line, between rain, drizzle, mizzle etc. my opinion on speeding, yes its wrong, but think it should be more conditional, i.e not carry points between 3 am-7am or summit.take my drive up to manchester at 1.30am new years day to go get me end away. i was hyped up about, and driving suitably quick.i was dioing about 85 all the way, perhaps more in places, how many cars did i pass on a 75 mile trip, erm 8(i counted because i cudnt believe how quiet it was), the visibility was spot on, dry, clear night.. 79mph in this situation could result in 3 points and £60 fine. but seriously, would it be just, would it bollox. however my mother works in a school. cars parked on the side of the road every morning and afternoon. its a 30 limit, traffic lights for crossing, 4 buses in a bus stop, its snowing.and visibility is about 20 metres. kids wear a black uniform. doing 34mph in this area, would not result in a fine or points, but in them conditions, unless you got a damn good reason to drive like that, you should be hung drawn and quartered.and gatsos, how wrong are they great auntie margaret passing through at 35,with her mind on other things coming back from bingo at 11pm on a tuesday night, flash, flash £60. but darren the d*ckhead, in his mums 2.0 mondeo, which he doesnt have insurance on, knows where the camera is, 70 mph up to it. 30 past it, 80 after hes gone past it, does he get caught, does he bollox.rant over
CBProductions
but if the uninsured Nova coming the other way driven by a drunk 16 year old isn't, then he's f**ked. So why are they clamping down on the people that speed slightly surely best to fight the ones that are drinking smashing things up and robbing carsand CAUSING accidents. Yes I agree in some circumstances with speed cameras but I feel there is a whole lot more important things to be done by the police.
