My Validation Idea..

Recommended Posts

Reposted it here, to stop the few 'idiot' new members from killing my thread.

Instead of having a stupid validation system, that (even though i am a member) i find discriminative as it judges people by there internet projected attitude/personality which is very inaccurate as most people take what people say, the wrong way, -for instance, someone could be cussed down and frowned upon for putting up what was supposed to be a joke, because people took it the wrong way etc.. , it is also very judgemental on peoples grammer and spelling.. which i feel is most unfair as not everyone is on a degree course at uni for English Spelling.. -take my friend trav, he isn't very good at all at spelling or grammar he is a labourer for a job,so therefore he doesn't need it! .. he is also on the other hand an Extremely talented rider, but he cannot post on this forum and doesn't any more as he gets nothing but greif about his spelling etc... i find that once 1 person makes a comment on someone's spelling, everyone has to kick off and say there piece and it ruins the thread...

anyways, rambling aside.. here is the solution...

Instead of having 'New members' & 'Members' Have 'Members' and 'Premium Members' ... charge a small fee, like £5 p/yr for access to the 'Premium Members forums' and add some stuff to make it worth while spending on the membership..

that way, Not only does the owner of this site make a profit, you will find that Premium Members will make better & more sensible use of the forum as 'in a way, they have paid for it..

it also solves the problem of people constantly winging about becoming a full member, eliminates the stress of the mods having to assess every single new member to the forum.

maby put up a poll see what people think.. its an idea. and to be honest, if this was my website , i would have done this ages ago.. its a Very good investment! and im sure if the people on here can afford £500 + for a trials bike & more for maintenance, then they (or their parents, most cases now days -no offence) can afford an extra Fiver for the 'premium membership'

-1 last thing.... there is a difference between MSN talk and Text talk.. Text talk designed to save space and cram more words into 1 tx, to save on credit.. but MSN talk , using abbreviations like to be honest and PMSL are no more than a form of short hand , call it 'internet talk' and begin as 90% of people that use the net understand what it means nowadays, i don't see why its such a problem to use it! -after all.. this is a socializing forum for people that enjoy trials riding.. not a university project!

just my 2 pence

Ry

I can't really see how that will help in any way.

I'm sure the admin want to keep TF free, they are getting by ok with the money comming in from the banners.

I agree there needs to be something done about validation and new members, but that idea dosn't really solve anything.

not sure if this is a good idea, i'm sure the forum will get alot less active due to the fee

also, stupid text speaking chavs can become members easier now..

i agree that the current systeem isn't 100% fair, but it's good enough i guess

I was always told 'Don't fix what isn't broken'.

I think from most people's point of view, TF is doing fine as it is and going ahead and changing things will only result in complications and more arguments.

AND a whole load of idiots asking majorly idiotic questions because of no NMC, spamming, fraud... I could go on.

I understand the problem as my mate sam-briggs price joined a few weeks ago and has had nothing but perfect posts but is still in NMC and there are others like it, but if we tryed your idea Ryan then we would get alot of crap posted here. All we need is a new valadation sytem or an admin that could be in Nmc all the time just to spot those good members. Thanks, Josh.

I don't want to pay 5 quid.

>_<:P

But seriously, Danny and Tom would be mega rich with this many members paying 5 quid...

Possibly exempt people that are already members? ...

Problems with this: People could have a fiver kicking around that they don't want and could sign up, become a premium member and f**k up the place.

Positive: People that are here to cause trouble probably don't want to pay 5 quid 'cos they're pikeys and can't afford it unless they nick someones trainers and sell 'em.

I can't make up my mind... Maybe have it two ways? Can prove yourself if you are able to prove yourself, but can pay straight off if their spelling isn't that good...

I think Validation is the best way.

Members that have paid are normally VIP's on forums...

Just some pointers.

i do see your points there, but like i said in me other post (new members) , kids don't own credit cards , or paypal.. and im pretty sure that if parents found their kids to be abusing things like the forum, after they used their card numbers to pay for it, they wouldn't be too pleased. -especially as with credit cards / paypal etc... everything is traceable back to a home address!

Btw... i no this is off topic.. but Josh.. do you have a full size pic of That pic in your avatar (Elisha cuthburt) .. every time i see a post by you, i get mesmerised by it for ages!!:sleeping:

More Admin...

I'm sure Danny and Tom, although this is their forum, have got better things to do than worry about this forum 24/7. So a soltuion to the problem , i feel, is to bring in more Admin. It would be a hard thing to do but i choose OBM :P .

Cheers,

Joe.

I've never seen anybody bitch at the use of acronims (the use of lol, to be honest, btw etc...) Its when people come onto a forum, and they can't even construct a readable sentence, i mean, i couldn't care less about people that come on and don't use capital letters etc, as long as i can read what they're posting its ok. But generally most people that come onto this forum, are so used to text talk, or msn talk if thats what you want to call it (its basically the same thing) is really annoying, who wants to spend most of their trials-forum viewing pleasure, looking at all the topics in all the sub forums filled with text talk. I think the validation rule is good, even though it took me like 4 months and 100 + posts to do it, i still think its a good system.

The only bad point i feel is the for sale/wanted part of things, i know its tricky but i'm pretty sure most people when dealing with people without references will ask for a phone number address (obviously address if your posting something) and can tell if the person is a scammer or not.

EDIT: It automatically changes the acronim for 'to be honest' to 'to be honest' :P

Just to add to this, the admin will have to set up a system to take in the funds. And Danny and Tom are busy boys enough as it is.

Not many people would bother with payment, and then the 'members' section would become like NMC. No one would post topics in the 'premium' section because there would be less people to see it.

I personally think the validation idea should be scrapped, but keep a 'new members section' for people to post newbie questions in. Then all the crappy topics would go there.

Or...

When someone signs up, make them a member stright off, and then de-validate if needs me. More than 50% of the people who sign up are worthy of been validated, so why not.

haha yer lets make tf like the labour party pay in your money and become a senior member. B)

I thought the validation system was bad when I was a new member but now i see it's a good thing, (although the odd one still slips through the net. fat pants.) :-:P

it's a bad idea though the current validation system is fine and there are reasons some have been there for 2 or more years. :-

-altho, refering to 'no one but premium members' seeing the Prem Member content,... you could keep it Viewable to NM's just no rights to post..

Ill be f**ked if im paying £5 for this pile of shite. The forum is a bloody joke at the minute, im currently at 70%.. 60% of that was justified but when i read most of the threads in chit chat now its all a pile of f**king bollocks stuff i would have been warned for easily. All this "post a picture" phase.. its just stupid, the constant "lets get a quote from pete wright" stuff.. .. the list is endless.

I'm sorry, but you do not need a uni degree in english to not type like a retard. 99% of English is common sense, if they lack the common sense to spell and punctuate, what makes anyone believe they have the common sense to not make shit threads about shit subjects, and make un-helpfull and spamming replies.

It has nothing to do with if you can spell or not, its to prove you have atleast some common sense behind you, as well as maturity.

Instead of having 'New members' & 'Members' Have 'Members' and 'Premium Members' ... charge a small fee, like £5 p/yr for access to the 'Premium Members forums' and add some stuff to make it worth while spending on the membership..

Wont work. If this was a car forum, sure offer discount insurance, parts etc, but see'ing as this is the only trials-forum in the UK, if they gave out discount, then tartybikes might as well just drop their prices, as everyone would use it.

that way, Not only does the owner of this site make a profit, you will find that Premium Members will make better & more sensible use of the forum as 'in a way, they have paid for it..

Again, not true. Just because people can afford 5 quid, doesn't at all mean they will be any better then any other new member. I've seen it countless times on various forums, where people sign up, need some discount, pay the comparativly small fee and get massive rewards, then either never post, or just post shit.

"lol", i can happily accept. However, if you start shortening "to be honest" and actually use "pmsl" instead of just a smiley or "haha", then whats to stop you shortening every single word, as you are that lazy?

I'm sure the admin want to keep TF free, they are getting by ok with the money comming in from the banners.

You might think so, but a forum doesn't stay at the same visitor rate for ever, it goes up, as do the costs.

I agree there needs to be something done about validation and new members, but that idea dosn't really solve anything.

I also agree, people need to learn how to use it and have common sense.

I think Validation is the best way.

Possibly the only thing i'll ever agree with you on.

There is however one last option, and thats go back to how it was and hire a lot more moderators and have forum specific ones so people don't cross over and and try to keep the seemingly retarded population of the united kingdom from completly smothering the forum.

I however also think that is a completly stupid idea, so there we go. :)

Meh.

Yeah but the more members that join, the easier it is to sell bannerspace. So it all works out. :turned:

Meh.

Not to be horrible, but i dissagree with most of the stuff you wrote there.. your View is very negative and single minded. For instance.. if someone came on here and wrote something like : ' i got magiurea prolembem , leva stiks and it leakes can you help' then straight away they will get negative attitude from a great big hand full of people and prob no reply to the problem.. now i know a few people that cannot spell and not too good at reading.. and having the guts to post on a forum, or even use a computer , is bloody good for them. but they will get put down and cussed because they have bad spelling and bad grammar. -and will also not get validation because their spelling attracts 'thread killing' do-gooders .

as for charging for a premium membership, there is no proof it will work , no proof it wont.. but its a possibility. and if someone comes up with the right ideas of what to put in the Premium sections , to make it worth while... then it could be to great success. like you say, forum costs rise.. So why not add extra funding?!

about abbreviations .. i naturally write using things like PMSL, and lol.. there is no harm done by them?! as long as people understand what you mean.. go onto any car forum , and you will see people moderately use abbreviations all the time, and nothing is ever said about it.. the only ones likely to write whole paragraphs in short form are the Kids on this forum.. i know that because i have seen me younger brother (13) chatting on msn with his mates , and i cant understand 1/2 they are chatting about.

to be honest i like to use this forum to see what's for sale, what's new out, and watch some video clips.. it irritates me too when people post crap.. but i do also get the feeling that some people feel they are like 'School Prefects' and have to control order -even if its not required. Picking out spelling mistakes and cases of slight Abbreviated talk is way beyond required.. and i find this equally as irritating as when the idiots post.

now i know that i will get some retaliation from this post, and with that,it will basically give evidence to the last paragraph i wrote. altho no offence is intended.

Possibly, but the thing is they could just sign up again with a different user name and come back if they get de-validated. There'd need to be a way of stopping this if this was going to happen.

Well, if a person comes back with a different account and has learnt their lesson from befor, there won't be a problem.
