jonny_smith
hey eveyone, I was just out riding and i was on my back wheel and just as i did a pedal stroke something went *CRACK* very loudly . I think this might've been my rear hub skipping (deore) and it has happened before but this time, when i spin my cranks backwards they make a wierd grating/grinding noise. What would cause this? Would it be my rear hub or would it be my bottom bracket because that is loose as well.thanks help appreciated
tom 20
.. unlucky there mates as it may end up costing you some dough, it could either be the rear hub or the bb. worth taking it apart and checking it out maybe? ,, good luck with whatever the problem is Edited January 7, 2007 by tom
trials rules
Could be that you popped out one of the pawls or springs. Take it apart carefully and have a ganda. Or take it to your local shop and get them to have a look.

ZOO! 2007
you say when you pedal backwards you can here gritty sort of noise, it could well be the cup and cones in the hub mate they might need replacing but it works out cheaper to buy a new hub if it just a deore!thanks
fruitbat
Its definately sounding like the hub, the deore isnt made for trials, no matter how small the riding may be, and i found it out the same waythe bearings will have come out and the internals will be cracked/well on their wayUpgrade to a hope, i know its more cash but they are well worth the cashFrooty Edited January 7, 2007 by fruitbat
Village Idiot
when i spin my cranks backwards they make a wierd grating/grinding noise. What would cause this? Would it be my rear hub or would it be my bottom bracket because that is loose as well.Maybe try taking the chain off the rear cogs (or take the wheel out) so spinning the wheel won't cause the freewheel/hub to go round, then spin the cranks round. If the noise is still there it's likely to be your BB, otherwise I'd reckon it's the hub.

ZOO! 2007
dont see why not, the only thing that will break is the hub!

moza
Hey, it could be a number of things, your rear axel(happened to me was nasty), your freehub in the hub may have exploded, or it could be your bb. i would take your rear wheel out and give the casset a spin with you hand see how it feels. if its ok it is probly your bb( recently took my square taper bb out to put an isis one in and it was in 9 bits lol). i would advise getting a more reliable hub like a Hope pro 2, of even a fixxed hub and front freewheel.Moza
