Bessell
I want to start having a play around at art and design was just wondering what sort of programs would be good for designing things such as these? engageclothin.co.uk

Concussion
I'd say Photoshop. I can never think what to use Illustrator for.... unless I'm concerned about the file size and output of the design.
craigjames
true you can do a lot of stuff in photoshop, but illustrator is a lot more flexible if you want to adjust the size of things for example, because its all done in vectors rather than using pixels to define size. i use photoshop a lot but for the main part of the sort of things you want to do i use illustrator.if in doubt ask mr craig lee scott what he uses, as i recognise those images to be his? poopipe
true you can do a lot of stuff in photoshop, but illustrator is a lot more flexible if you want to adjust the size of things for example, because its all done in vectors rather than using pixels to define size. i use photoshop a lot but for the main part of the sort of things you want to do i use illustrator.IMO....Illustrator is very powerful - particularly if you're creating purely original artwork but photoshop is a better all rounder.people tend to overlook them but photoshop has a good set of vector tools. they aren't as powerful as the ones you find in illustrator but you're really only lacking the gradient mesh things and fancy line styles, i reckon the various processing tools in photoshop more than make up for the shortcoming. in an ideal world you'd have both but if you're only allowed one then you want photoshop Edited January 7, 2007 by poopipe
Urban mammoth
i use both but tend to bring everything together in illustrator.the layers pallette is much easier to organize etc.but try them both and see what you think.thats only for design stuff though. if im handling photographs then i use photoshop.if you want to use type then please please please do it in illustrator first because photoshop will ruin it if you wanna resize it later.
