Is Riding Street Wrong?

i remember a few years back people would delibratley land to bash alot. not so much now though.

flowers though and a few bricks knocked out from walls which is annoyng because it makes it more difficult to ride.

what is worse though is the waxing of kerbs etc by skateboarders. also pretty crap for trials as grip it makes it a bit sketchy.

In the design briefs for all the places you ride it probably states such things as-

"To produce a...

"...secure parking area"

"...enjoyable shopping environment"

"...relaxing scenic area for community use"

That generally doesn't constitute throwing a teenager and £1500 worth of aluminium at plant beds, cable boxes, safety barriers and seating areas. Plus street furniture isn't particularly cheap and is is certainly not designed for the abuse that riders and skaters give it.

Hmn, gave me a thought, most of these modern street furniture is very high quality and made of strong materials to make it last a while.

There is a fountain/memorial thing outside my local tesco's, the actual memorial itself is old and would most probably get damaged by bashing onto it, but the benches around it are very high quality and wont budge or do a thing is something bashed onto it. They are made of an almost marble like material, and come with anti grind studs to stop the skaters.

But the point I'm trying to get across is that most modern structures and outdoor furnitures are designed to take a beating, the people who design them know what makes them tick and know that people will ride them in this kind of manner. So surely if they have been designed for this thing, it can;t be c;assed as criminal damage to the furniture?

Hmmm

1. It is ilegal!

2. If you acept that it is ilegal (and always will be) and dont take the piss you should be fine!

3. Have some spacial awareness- Some people ive been on street rides with could have had a elephant standing behind them and the wouldnt notice!

4. Have respect for other members of the public! ( maybe not chavs/scallies ) Ie, not blocking walkways etc.

5. Smile

6. Dont actualy think youve got a right to be riding where you are.

And you should be fine

Well no, not really. Its marble because it looks good. It's still not designed to be ridden on. The fact that it has anti grind stuff should be enough to get that point across.

The amount of times on videos I've seen people gapping from walls to railings about 2 metres away from pedestrians walking towards them is ridiculous. I bet if people waited until the area was clear or moved to somewhere less busy then it could only help the general view of people who ride on bikes.

the wall brakes my bike so why cant they give me money.

what?.. it's an inanimate object...

Yea i think as long as were not causing a hinderance to people or damaging property, then we should be able to ride as and where we like, just with consideration. But as with all things someone will always spoil it for everyone else.

Street entertainers are allowed to do there thing, i'm sure people watching us ride are entertained just much. Some things will never change though, i think this is one of them.

I wouldn't exactly say its 'Wrong'.

I mean its fair enough people not wanting to be nearly runover by hooligans riding down the streets while there doing there ever so important shopping, however would they rather us ride our bikes and keep out the way or go arround robbing old ladies and smashing windows etc..

At least 'we' as riders arent robbing people for fun and braking things in the streets doesn't really happen that often its just the occasional time it does happen that the fuzz do you for it!!

well to be honest it would seem so. Chavs get so many benefits because scum of the earth and because we try to be a bit more respectable we get shit?

It has nothing to do with the fact that we're not mugging people, shoplifting etc. The fact is, most of the time we have no right to be riding in these places.

I think this post sums every thing up nicely:

^^^ this man speaks the truth. I know its not perfect, but at the end of the day, if you dont own it...you have no right to ride it. We just have to exept this.

Like VillageDave said, if we can just be aware of the other members of the pubic when riding and we are not rude when we do get told to move on etc, we cant go wrong (Y)

FFS guys, just find somewhere empty to ride. I've been doing it for years and rarely ever get any shit from anyone. Industrial estates after 6pm, Sunday nights when the town centre is empty, quiet bits of town etc.

Or if you absolutely MUST ride somewhere where there's a lot of people, try not to annoy anyone by getting in their way.

And if the cops turn up just stop riding until they've buggered off.

It's not rocket science.

People complaining about us riding is a fact of trials life; live with it, it ain't gonna change. There won't be a big "STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT TRIALS RIDERS" advert run on BBC1 any time soon.

In my opinion, it's not "wrong" per se - it just pisses people off. At the end of the day the "criminal damage" element is just a phrase used by people who don't want you riding in pedestrian areas. They rarely ever care about the actual damage; in real terms they probably wouldn't have noticed the 4mm wide ding in the wall if they hadn't seen you slip to bash on it. They care more about the fact that you might land on their fat shopping-loaded asses when you attempt that drop/gap/up/whatever.

trials will end up the same as bmx, skateboarding has been in the past, were all out for no good and trying to destroy anything we touch, and that we should be banished off the streets, and arrested for riding our bikes. Until finally some trials parks start popping up and then trials starts to become more socially acceptable.

Thats my view anyway.
