Nick Garland
Right today, went riding, bikes fine for about hour or so. Tyres felt abit flat so went to pump them up. Come back, bike starts to make a funny clunk noise, not always a noise but can feel something when pedalling. So I checked cranks, no movement sideways, not lose etc, did them up to make sure, checked pedals, checked rear wheel, checked mech nothing seems lose. BB isnt wobbling either. So I get back on, its still happening, now I pedal softly, ie putting weight on bars and enough force to move wheel and no feeling/noise, I pedal normally feeling and noise are back.It generally seems to be when the left crank is returning to an upwars position ie 12 o clock.Anyone got any ideas its all new stuff 2 days old or so, echo bb, echo cranks, gu bash, surely cog, wellgo pedals with pro 2 hub. Matthew_Gibson
Have you had a new wheel built? can be that, Chain Stretching? I've had a noise when I had a new wheel built, it makes weird noise. Should be okay.
eskimo
Grease them up a little. No doubt it is your cranks.
Nick Garland
Yes to new rear wheel, its a whole new bike. I know the noise from rear wheel its a ping where nipples bedding and twisting on spokes. This is deffinatley from cranks as I can feel it from there, should all be done up tight used a bloody 30" torque bar I shall take it all apart tomorrow, re-grease and put it together again I suppose. Nick Garland
There something wrong with echo bbs or something. its been fitted using proper tool and everything.
poopipe
square taper cranks will creak & pop for the first few rides, you just make sure they're greased up good and keep tightening them till they shut up - i don't know about ISIS ones but I don't see why they wouldn't do the same sort of thing
Nick Garland
Its not a creak, its like a clonk.

Adrian
haha i know what that is, the same happens to my mates.... just check if this is right first... hold one carnk arm solid, and then try to move the other up and down, as in the way the are meant to turn as if you were peddelin, and does it move slightly up and down but the other stays still??? try it Edited December 28, 2006 by aim@me
Nick Garland
Nope solid as a rock Wouldnt that mean the axle was lose if that did move, as I am almost certain its tight as, it is really really weird.
Adrian
trust me, i bet thats it, try what i jus said but when you stand on them.. start with your left foot forward then rotate so that your right foot goes forward, i bet that half way through doing this theres a fat clunk
John planet x
I have the same problem with mine atm also mate. When i put power into my left crank stroking down, i feel a clunk and hear it too, feels aweful, nothing loose from what i can see either.middleburns square taper btw.Ive just been riding reguardless
Nick Garland
Sorted it, took off my cranks which was a b*****d to get undone, then bb seemed tight, but the axle wobbled not even noticably but you could feel it.Got out the 12" spanner tried to tighten it, but not luck, so got out the 30" extenders, with 42" of leverage got it done up abit tighter, lost the slight wobble and now no noise Anyone experiencing problems make sure everythings tight as possible. icspe
i heard the same noise, checked all, i was 99% sure that the noise comes from the BB, checked it, it wasnt lose and then i replaced the right pedal with an older one and the noise disappearedso maybe it is from your pedali oiled my pedal, checked the bearings and the noise is gone:)good luck! Reinold
I had the exact same problem, after spending ages trying to figure out what the problem was, it turns out it was the pedals.
