Snapped Split Links

Recommended Posts

Have snapped my third split link today in like a month

It's a KMC K810 or K710 chain, can't remember which one, but it's pretty chunky

One time it was the complete link >_< but the other two times, it was just the clip that split....

Any suggestions?

(Apart from eat less pie :P:lol: )

thanks

it also makes snapping easier.

you clean your chain ?

why ?

don't people just squirt gt85 at them til they stop feeling lumpy?

Usually I clean it every other week or so. I ride quite a lot of natural, and it attracts loads of grit.

But if you all reckon junk the split link, then I shall (Y)

i prefer to take my chain apart as little as possible as its the only thing that stops you smashing your face while doing drops etc.

if you want to clean it just wrap a rag about the chain and back pedal? then re oil.

i've had a bad experience with split links and now i just rivet my chain straight together.

Do these chains fit 8-9 speed? Just wondering because i keep sapping my chain.

Steve

Doubt it mate, although you might be able to, but it won't shift very well/at all. Try the KMC K810 or the K710, both of these have alot narrower pins.

If you've broken it three times then I think it's trying to tell you something!

SRAM powerlinks are a bit crap and prone to snapping (or just falling apart), but I've never had any problem with the split link on KMCs. It's quite useful to be able to take the chain off, but if it's giving you problems then I'd just sack it off and join it properly.
