ben_travis
Right, i just had my axle threaded on my deng hub. i want bigger stronger stiffer bolts for the axle, but due to the thread pitch this doesnt seem possible. SO......my question is.....does anyone have any ideas, could someone make me a new axle? could i re-tap the axle threads to something bigger. similar to a CHRIS KING FUN BOLT?any ideas please?taben
Guest
The standard echo bolt's are M10, Fun bolt's are M12, so you would be loosing a fair bit of material in the axel, which could effect the strength.....What is the outside diameter of your existing axel? 10mm?If that's the case fun bolt's won't work with it, as they require at least 12mm , and even then you'd only have 0.5mm of axel on the thread = disaster, custom axel might be the way to go....This is assuming mike singleton is correct here http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....king+fun+bolts# Edited December 26, 2006 by jake1516

Guest
Yes, but from looking at this picIt look's like there is only about 4-5mm of space on the axel before it enter's the lockring(?) nut. So I doubt a full bolt would even fit...What material is the existing axel? If it's aluminium you could try having a steel one made to the same specifications, it would certainley be stronger just from the material change...... ben_travis
again its the bolt size im most annoyed about. i just want something with beefier bolts (as in allen key size) so i can get more torque on it. without rounding the bolt.basically i want to try get a profile style bolt to fit my deng hub, but the thread size is so weird on a deng hub (10mm x 1mm pitch) which makes it shit.its a tough one. suppose i could try speak to edd potts. see what he might say.any one else? Gavyn.
any decent engineering company will make you one. just phone them up my dad got his work to do it when he needed some bolt for his car.
Guest
Ahh right I see, I guess a steel one could be made to have any thread.I don't really know naff all about the deng hub's but here is an M10 x 1.5 bolt that has an 8mm allen head? I thought generally for wheel's it was 5mm, (it is on my mod anyway) They might be slightly large at 40mm but can be cut down im sure or they may have shorter ones......EDIT: forgot link!!http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stainless-Steel-Alle...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited December 26, 2006 by jake1516
ben_travis
its the thread pitch that is wrong though. surely if i put a 1.5mm thread pitch in a 1mm pitch thing it will all get messed up?not sure....argh i wish i were an engineer. cheers for the help jake, ill try edd potts as well. Guest
Yeh but ed should be able to knock you out a steel axel the same as your deng one, and just put M10 x 1.5 threads on it for you instead of the f**ked up deng thread..... ben_travis
Buy a good hub? Will be worth it in the long run.yer thanks for that. my deng hub is fine, had no problems at all except I WANT beefier bolts,
joshywa
can you get a clear drawing of the axle with some dimensions???
26inch
Your best bet would be to copy you axle on a lathe but make the axel longer and put nuts on the end like a bmx. From what i can tell the deng hub uses M5 bolts which are never going to be that strong and putting larger bolts in will weaken the axle. Or for the same price should have got a pro2
ogre
wtf, how did you round/thread the axle i've put some proper pasty into tightening mine and it's held fine. out of interest how much would an axle cost (mite be good to have a spare when you're a basher like me )
Guest
mp ,pre than £10 -£15 for a steel one, and that's pricey, if you know someone with a lathe they would do one for free no doubt. it's not exactley hard to turn one out...
