Firstly, hello and Merry Xmas!

Now onto the reason i have wandered into this site and what i would like anyone to help me with.

I have just purchased a 1998 Montessa cota 315R, its in quite good condition and pulls amazingly, however i have not got a clue as to how often i should service and what parts or whether there are daily running checks! could anyone help me?

Also i would like to change some of the more tired looking parts, Plastics etc and have scoured the internet but haven't found anything has anyone got any ideas?

I am keen to listen to any advice given as i know knowledge is power!!

alright mate,

yeah this is a bike trial forum but i have 2 montesa's a 2001 and a 1999, i check my bike over after every ride, this means i can find anything broken through out the trial. Things such as chains should be oiled after every trial (after cleaning obviously) and any excess slack shuld be removed because if it get hit on a rock or something it could get removed from the sprocket. This has happened to me before and the chain gets crammed around the sprocket from your gearbox and is a right pain to remove when convered in mud and in the middle of a field or wood.

Clean out airfilter after every trial as enevitably some mud or small twigs get in somehow, and spray all your engine with WD40 or similar to displace any water from cleaning this also prevents any rusting and makes it a bit easier to clean after the next trial.

And finally, i blow my tyres up in between every trial and then let them down at the next trial according to the conditions and terrain. I do this to stop the bike standing on low pressure as it can come from the beading a bit and if let for a long time it sops your tyres from starting to crack.

hope i've helped

Jonny

P.S. regards to plastics ring Sandiford's for all montesa parts. They are the best i can't remember the number of top of my head but go on google. It's James Sandiford not Ford.
