Saftey First?

hi,

i always say safety first (following an accident that i had not too long back), but most people think that having fun and stuff like that comes first. Personally I think that trials biking will grow and become more popular if people say yeah its all about having a good time and enjoying yourself because people will be drawn into it whereas if you say "wear a helmet and wear shin pads" and all that sort of stuff people will slowly move away and think that you have to wear a helmet etc. So I was just wondering, what we should say to people who are just starting, and to people who are thinking of starting trials biking.

-What do you think?

  1. safety first
  2. its all about enjoying yourself
But if you don't agree with either of these reasons what do you think. Let me know. :)

p.s- always wear a helmet (Y)

I wear a helemet always, and gloves for bit more comfort, but i can enjoy my self more try more stuff when i have got a helmet on becasue then i know if i fall of my heads safe, but with out it always got that fear of doing some real damage, but picking a good helemet can look pretty cool, and protect your nogin, and in some cases you look more profesional and people take you more seriously, but thats just what i think.

how about f**k up and don't tell people what to do at all?

I don't wear a helmet generally, and it's not an issue, if I rode with someone telling me to wear a helmet all the time your right, i'd tell them to f**k off and ride elsewhere. In the same respect, if I keep getting told to 'have fun' when im not having a good day or when im getting annoyed that Im not getting a line, again, i'll tell them where to go.

If someone doesn't wear a helmet you telling them to isn't really going to make much of a differance, just let people get on with it eh?

sorry but that is possibly the SHITTEST thing i have ever heard. why would you tell them to f**k off. they are looking out for you?

its called people skills, its chatting. one day you will hurt yourself if you dont use a helmet, i hope to god its not serious but if your going to be a tosser about it would probably be considered karma......

I agree to some extent with Jake that telling people what to do is not really the way foward. If you ride with someone who doesn't wear a helmet it's perhaps better to ask them why they don't rather than just tell them they should.

Having said that, if someone was starting trials and wanted advice I'd definatley advise them to wear a helmet.

I do take a safety first attitude to my own riding though - I always wear helmet, gloves and knee/shin pads and if something seems too dangerous I leave it. Fear is there for a reason and should not be completely ignored.
