Preferably as cheep as possible.

Thanks,

wasnt pete wright able to do it at one point, was on about doing his coust in a bathtub or something. :-

but other than engineering places, some classic car restoration places or custom bike builders(motorbike) or commercial bodybuilders may be of use, chances are if they dont do it, or have a direct supplier who will do it, theyll know someone who will.

Yes, it can be done at home. All you need is a container, good ventilation, lots of acid of some sort and a proper source of electrical current. Frankly speaking the process is so nasty that you want to keep well away from doing it yourself. I was at one stage close to making a small anodizing machine but the substances one has to work with are way too hazardous. My friend's had his frame anodized, no idea why one should want that done. Lacker is good enough.

edit: you do realize that the term anodizing only refers to creating a thin layer of aluminum oxide and has nothing to do with colours? I think the only process which actually creates a colour layer on the metal is plasma coating?

yes you do create a layer of aluminium oxide but that can be dyed (form what i know, if im worg correct me) and by already forminga a dyed layer of aluminium oxide it prevents any more to occour

have a look on ther that explains most of it,

as most people have said just look in the yellow pages, or go to an engineering ferm, they will beable to tell you where to get it done

i was looking into it a while back, but i was advised not to as when they pickel it in acid before its anodised to clean it, this can penitrate any tiny cracks making them bgger and the frame weaker

Yup, wad's got it right. When you anodize something, it creates an oxide layer that is relatively porous during the process. So by adding a dye into the mix the oxide layer absorbs the colour and bingo, you've got a well-protected, good-looking piece of metal.
