Just got this built yesterday, did a big wheelie gap accross a road in sainsburys kurb to kurb I miss timed it a bit and the front wheel nosed into the kurb i let my weight off it and put my feet down to not do any damage, the wheel rolled into the kurb with not much pressure on it, not even enough to rim out and it whent into a massive v, tried hammering it out but it just snapped.

I dont no whether it was the wheel build or the rim. 3x on disk side 2 x on tother, a bit pissed off as you might imagine after paying £20 for a build and it lasting 2 minutes..

Jason >_<

What rims are good, thinking of gettitng a koxx rim tomorow

Who built it?

Regardless, i'd be bringing it back and showing them, if they claim that the rim was the problem then really as a bike shop(was it even a shop or a mate, if a mate then you got stroked £20), surley they shouldn't have gone ahead with the build if they knew the rim was damaged in some way...

Lessons:

1. Do not buy an 05 Echo CNC rim (even though they don't make them any more - bit of a pointless lesson).

2. Do not go to the shop who charged you £20 for a wheelbuild, ever again.

3. New rim and wheelbuild from Tarty. Then you know your not getting f**ked over (Y) .

Bit of a b*****d about the rim anyway... (N)

Cheers,

Joe.

Yeah, avoid single-wall rims in general. Which bright spark thought they would be lighter for the front  ?

A single wall construction, will always be weaker than a double wall structure using the same amount of material, therefor to get a rim the same strength = heavier!

Taking out one wall will make it lighter, but halving the thickness will save the same amount of weight. (before anyone mentions tension of the spokes on a thinner outer wall: double eyelets).

Which explains why a try-all front rim weighs 414g, and sucks, and an Onza Reggie weighs 400g and is a good rim.
