hey guys, i recently got a new pc, built by a friend for a very good price.

its brand new, and has been running in my uni room sinse september.

ive just got home for christmas, set it all up, and hit the power switch

initially everything went fine, for about 5 seconds, then it just cut out :S and now i get nothing

any ideas? i dont really have a clue where to start.

its all VERY decent kit, as dave (landlord and builder of pc) is a computer genius, and it was all bought tax free in gurnsey.

i would call dave, but hes currently on a plane back to gurnsey, so i cant!

any ideas?

edit: incase anyone is wondering, im on my lappy atm, but my pc has all my stuff on it, which i need :)

was just about to ask how come you're on trials forum lol

umm all I can think of that would stop it working so suddenly like that is a dodgy connection somewhere? car journey home might work something loose. If you haven't already, then wiggle all the power wires, makes sure they're in tightly, or if they're screwy in ones then make sure they're properly screwed in. If that doesn't do it then it might be something loose inside the tower that needs properly pushing into the motherboard? You could have a look inside if you're feeling brave, I think you're meant to touch a radiator or something big and metal to make sure that you aren't statically charged first or something...

good luck

Are you using a surge lead? (which I hope most people do :P) But none the less, start with obvious things first, change the fuse in the plug, and if its a surge lead, check the indicator lights.

Secondly, as suggested, check the PSU, I'm guessing its not a cheap one, but still, expensive ones blow up too. No smoke or anything?

Is it completely DEAD? No semi start up, no beeps from the motherboard speaker? No fans?

Open the PC up, I doubt its a loose connection but check anyway. Check the diodes for any colour change that might show a burn out (slightly brown/tanned colour), dont touch any components though (not without anti static and all that).

How old is the PC? What make/model is the PSU?
