python_man
Right happens to all of us.Bloody aluminium is noting compared with the steel bolts of my magura mounts. Does anyone know of a company that specialises in the making of copper or a metal stronger than aluminium inserts???Helicoliling is not a option can’t be bothered My fault really should have greased the bolts when i got the frame but I can’t do that nowIt would be a nice thing that frame manufacturers could think about. Maybe some sort of insert in the mounts.

Mark W
So let's just get this straight: You can't be bothered helicoiling, which works well, because it's too much effort, so you want another option? That's probably going to take effort too, so you may as well just do the helicoiling anyway...Maybe some sort of insert in the mounts.Helicoils as standard? python_man
i was thinking of getting a copper insert of the four bolt size (i also would like to know the size of the thread) making the hole in my frame slightly bigger and stick the insert in the hole whadda you all reckon???onzaboymark i suppose your right anyone know anywhere in kent that does helicoiling?? Dan6061
Seriously, just helicoil it.I got all my mounts done after i stripped the thread in one. Cost me £20 from a local engineer, and he made me some stainless booster spacers, and machined out my mounts to clean the up a bit.I actually forgot they were in there. Mark W
If you google helicoiling kits, you'll find a kit should be around £20 or so. That'll have enough to do 4. You need M5x24tpi or something like that, I can't remember off-hand as it's been about 6-12months since I looked for a kit last...
eskimo
If you have loads of money. Someone on here will do it for you. Although most places will do 4 for 20 quid.Try your local bike shop.

Its just a standard M5 by 0.8 thread.A helicoil is exactly what your asking if anyone makes. You drill the mount out to 5 point something I think it is, then tap it with an M6 by 0.8 tap, then put a steel insert into that thread to bring it back down to the original M5 by 0.8 size. Mark W
An engineering firm could do it for a couple of quid if you have one near you that does it for you? Some places just don't, or have ones that won't do stuff like that.
