Dibs!

I'll probably sound like a whining git, but does this whole 'dibs' thing when you trying to sell an item annoy you as much as it does me?

I mean, someone's trying to, say, sell a pair of forks. Someone who's only slightly interested says 'dibs' 4 seconds after the thread has been made because they want to get in first to make sure they have a chance. Then when they actually get in touch with the seller they either can't pay for the item until the year 2019 (when they get paid, and expect you to wait, and then they spend that money when they finally do get it, and can no longer buy your item) or the forks are the wrong colour, don't have Magura mounts, the steerer is too short, or they’ve just changed their minds and the millions of other reasons why they can’t buy them anymore.

That on its own doesn’t really matter, but the problem your left with is your thread now has people who have claimed their rights to the item your selling, and now everyone else thinks they’ve been sold and it puts off genuine sellers because they’ve seen 2 or 3 people take 1st 2nd and 3rd dibs.

That’s it really. :)

Basically when I sell anything on TF my monitor becomes a home of post it notes saying who owes me, how much, what for, their name, address and TF username.

If someone 'dibs' it I usually keep hold of for them and ask them if they're still interested every so often, if someone PM's me about it or anything I'm more likely to make a sale, a PM takes effort, 'dibs' don't. I don't really care if I promise them to someone else and I sell it to another person...they got the money quicker and at the end of the day thats all that matters.

I only tend to hold items for people I have dealt with before and know to be reliable.
