I used to have 2 different models (one from 2003 and one from 2005) and for me they were just a crap. Right now I have Avid SD7 which is PERFECT (perhaps Shimano XT is good also). dan the trials man Posted December 14, 2006 Report Share Posted December 14, 2006 Wtf? how can you hate hs33s i run them front and back and the front is better than a disk it is way more responsive, 2003 hs33s you were proberbly using standard brake pads or something .DanI think hs33s look much nicer on the front of your bike than disks aswell. chrishayton Posted December 14, 2006 Report Share Posted December 14, 2006 maguras on the front are awful, i have one on my monty and hate it, however on the rear i love a magura, ali's ultimate lever and caliper feels amazing but its a 120 quid set up. a magura is like 120 a pair!A well set up magura shouldnt ever slip. and bleeding one is hardly effort. Rear HS33 is alright, has it's annoying occasions, where one pad wont move back, bleeding it, setting it up perfectly.But now i've sorted it out properly, it's mint again - Click the link in my signature. echo v onza Posted December 14, 2006 Report Share Posted December 14, 2006 maggies, are definitely a good brake but they are such a pain in the ass. i have had three magura's and on all of them the little red adjuster on the front or on the blade of the newer magura's has broken on all of them within about a month everytime!! plus once you get water or greece/wd40 or something similar they don't hold at all, so much hassle. A buckled wheel is the same for any rim brake, if it's buckled enough, it'll rub. Just get the wheel trued.2. Bleeding Maguras is the easiest thing ever. If you've never done it before, or have no idea how it's done, then it seems like there's some sort of black magic, or special technique to doing it. But there isn't.I've tried around 3-4 different ways of bleeding my one, and all of them have worked.Just search the forum, and have a read how it's done.They're simple to service, just a shame you might have to do it a lot. It feels spongy, I barely had any control. My Magura works perfect. I bleed it once a month and use silicone spary to clean and lubricate it.By the way I have a question. Rebelistic Posted December 15, 2006 Report Share Posted December 15, 2006 I've always prefered the feel of hydrolics over cables - just feels smoother and no cable stretch.I've never tried an expensive V brake though, perhaps with better cable they perform better.As far as hold/bite goes, I don't think there would be much difference as long as the pads are good.
