Prawny Baby's Baby
When i was riding earlier my headset was a bit loose so brought it home and Prawn started to fix it.However we have found that the centre of the star fangled nut is spinning so we can't get it out!Any ideas on how to fix this?Currently hitting it very hard with a hammer! PaRtZ
yeah just tap it out (the bottom) and replace it probably is the best idea
JT!
Best thing would be to just smack it really far down the steerer, and hit a new one in over the top of it.
Joe_Elding
What I did was hit the bolt with a screwdrive/hammer as far down as you can reach it so it pushes the little metal circle at an angle giving it some grip on the actual star part. And then just unscrewing it...
Prawny Baby's Baby
WOOHOO!Prawn has fixed it! After muchos banging! Some how ramming an alan key into the gap in the stem worked (even though it didn't actually touch the nut!). Now just trying to get it out the top of the steerer as we have a random bar of metal stuck in there from trying to hammer it out!

Dan6061
Try mullering it with a heft screwdriver, and mallet.Did this at work once, just completely mangled it, and it fell out.

eskimo
WOOHOO!Some how ramming an alan key into the gap in the stem worked 'Alan key', so he is a real guy then When will they get rid of the star fangled nuts all together? Such an annoying thing. Just like wheel movement.I guess nothing comes as standard these days.
Prawny Baby's Baby
'Alan key', so he is a real guy then Yeah Alan is Prawn's dad, they were his allen keys we were using

Onza Kieron
For future reference, the offical Onza Kieron best way to egt them out is to drill the centre out, they're made of cheese so they drill easy and means that they're easy to remove from any fork including your without and prising or and of that malarky. joe b
No, for f**ks sake, please don't hit it to the bottom of your steer-tube. That's what i did after threading two star fangled nuts; having to drill through my top cap to gain access to my fork steer-tube wasn't a pretty job. And neither was trying to remove the two bastards by hitting them upwards with a screw driver !If i were you, i would just get the star fangled nut out of your steer-tube (don't try and hit it downwards through the bottom of your forks because it won't work), and buy a headlock - you'll have no trouble with one of those bad boys !Cheers,Joe.EDIT: Only just realised you've managed to sort it. I really should ... Edited December 13, 2006 by joe b
