Freewheel Help

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how does a freewheel work on the front of the bike (cranks) as i have seen picutres but do you need special cranks/BB to fit them. I was wondering, as i am looking at a new 20" bike 4 crimbo and wondered if i should have it set up like this and also just curious about how things work :P

Thanks Phill

the cranks need to have threads for the freewheel to screw onto, and you normally need a longer bottom bracket because the tapers are not long enough to accomenadate the crank and freewheel, so without a wide bb the freewheel would rub on the frame, hope this helps

yeah the freewheel works along the same basis as a rear one. Because there is a fixed cog and the rear hub it turns therefore rusultin in the freewheel to be pushed round i think (Y) hope this helps (Y)

um yeah, what he is saying is that because thers a fixed cog on the rear, the freewheels moving all the time not just when your pedaling.
