Oops, Freewheel Skipped

looks like lock ring has unscrewed it self and then fallen off nothing looks to of broke really just come apart.

Yep, dunno, I had a closer look, some pawls have taken the large, it doesn't look a safe option to screw it back if I can. Maybe a stupid question, how do you remove a crank from a ISIS BB? Yet another special tool?

The regular crank removers just push into nothing... ^_^

By the way, I thought freewheels normally self locked themselves as you ride... how can they unscrew?

Do you guys do maintenance on them?

Freewheels in general don't tighten themselves, Monty, Try-all and tensile claim that their freewheels do not unscrew themselves. I know the try all doesn't, as it's physically impossible, and the monty is the same design, so shouldn't either.

Your not the first to have a tensile that unscrews itself, alex, and at least one other person has had trouble with the same thing as you, I think it totally defeates the purpose of buying one when that happenes, as it's pretty much in the top 3 things of importance when buying a freewheel.

Unless there was a dud batch, or just crappy quality control, generally i'd stick up for onza/tenslie etc but I find it hard to when talking about these freewheels...

To get the crank off, get 2 5p pieces, and then just put them onto the end of the axle. They may be a tight fit at first, but when you tighten the tool up they bend into place fine.

With the freewheel, it looks like it's just unscrewed and the driveshell's just gone "f**k this". It could be one of the batch that had oppo instead of regular thread, I guess...

Hey,

thanks for the 5p tip, I was thinking of something in that line, it's not gonna stay stuck is it?

Well, I'll try to chek out what really happened...

Was alright after the flight (just had a not very sexy landing :P )

I had a proper seized up one and had to use 4... yeap 20p's worth of 5ps to get my crank arm off and they were mashed to buggery. Works though so good luck with it

Either use the 5p's or a bolt with a head thats larger than the axle hole. Pretty much anything solid that fits over the hole will work... and if they do happen to bend and get stuck, whack a screwdriver through the bb from the other side and hit it with a mallet.... they'll soon fly out.
