ogre
no there aluminium they'll oxidise though (if i remember correctly that will protect the fork ) so no worries
Tony Harrison
If they're aluminium, you could get some metal polish and shine them up...
RobinJI
If you're running the standard T-pro forks then there Steel and will rust if stripped down. So they would need to be painted.(says in your profile T-pro, dunno what upgrades though)

Dan6061
T-Pro forks are steel.Your Echo forks should be fine if you just strip the paint, then polish them. They wont rust, as they're aluminium.

Ben@LeicesterTrials
Your forks will 100% Not rust, There Alu and Alu don't rust I've stripped a few pairs of Alu Forks, There'll be fine. Just give them a good polish every month or so becuase they start to go dim and look rather old but once you've scrubbed them up abit with some Autosol (Metal Polish) There'll be looking brand new again.Steel forks will rust but Alu forks won't, Echo Lites are made of Alu so they won't rust So your alright to go and strip them.Maybe post some pics up, I've been thinking of stripping my Echo Lites Edited December 7, 2006 by Ben@LeicesterTrials
Matthew_Gibson
Best pic i have of when i polished my forks up, They start to fade after about 2 months.
RobinJI
O.T. thought the t-pro forks were chromoly Chromoly is a type of steel Yeah, agreed, aluminium doesn't rust, it oxidises, but that's a good thing with aluminium as aluminium-oxide is a very hard wearing protective layer on the surface of the material, that just looks kinda dull. Can be polished up though, but like people say, it only lasts a few months.
Greetings
You can strip them with caustic soda (thanks Ben for the advice) and polish them with no problem. They will oxidize creating aluminum oxide which as wrote before will protect the fork - you can call it self-anodizing if you wish but there's a slight difference between the two.The forks will go matte and if you want to keep the high polish Mr. Gibson has, they will need a polish every now and then. Alternatively you can spray them with lacker but that will slowly peel off and look grotty.
