What I don't understand is why it's ok to say 'That's gay!' etc all the time (using 'gay' as a derogatry term). I did a test in another thread - someone said hot weather is for gays, I said it's for another group of people (I used the 'n' word). My post got deleted, the other one didn't.

I despise the use of the word gay to mean something bad. I think it's demeaning to gay people - which includes a number of my friends - and I have made this point on numerous occasions before, but it's no use. It's common language now, and even the BBC agree. On reflection, perhaps I should have deleted or ammended the other post you mentioned, but I made a decision at the time. In the future I may make a different decision.

However, the amount of times the word gay is used in this forum - not to mention the increasingly homoerotic nature of certain peoples posts (should we have a coming out sub-forum to save time?) - means that I as a moderator become increasing numb to it. I have to, otherwise I'd do nothing but edit a large chunk of all the posts on here.

Hopefully it's a fad that people will grow out of, but I fear for now it's just common language usage.

Lots of people feel like that all the time. I was in a bar with someone and I was saying how much I hate religion, and how Christianity winds me up. Then I started saying that I think Islam is oppressive, etc, and she got nervous, looking around as said 'You can't say things like that...'.

People are worried, because the news media portray all muslims as jihad bearing bringers of terror. I was talking with someone at work about his faith as a muslim, and I was being respectful, but questioning why certain things were as they were. It was interesting because it was a two way conversation, not just me berrating what he believes because I consider it wrong.

If you can catch it, it's worth watching the Morgan Spurlock documentary Six Days about when a Christian stays with a Muslim family for six days and discusses faith with them. Some of the vox pops went along the lines of:

"What do you think when I say Muslim?"

"errr, Terrorist."

Why do we keep letting them in? So stupid, can the polititians not see that they're mostly corrupt. Polititians need to pull their head out of their arse and go to the less wealthy areas of London especially, prehaps look at where i live/ experience what it's like to live in a place populated by mostly foreigners that aren't gonna do anything but mug you.

You can't stop someone immigrating on the basis of their religion. There are border controls, but free movement is a good thing. How would you like it if you weren't allowed into a country you wanted to live in?

My racism, for what part there is, is the fact that asians are behind all the trouble there is around my area. We'll get a huge group of asians coming down smashing windows starting fights for no apparenty reason. Then if i'm up the skate park, we'll see some white chavs, that they rarely do a thing, unless someone is insulting them and what not. Whereas if a huge group of asians come up, they're there to cause trouble and steal i have found. A friend of mine had a card put in his mouth and punched (in the mouth with the card in) by an asian. If they weren't there always causing trouble then i probably wouldn't be in this frame of mind about them. But the fact is its not just 'a few individuals' as i'm sure someone must have said in this thread by now, that cause trouble. Its actually huge groups of people. They also say things about white people being racist, and not allowing them to fit in, yet for the most part they will only move to a location that there are other asian people.

EDIT: Dave i'll admit it. But there are places you can and can't say things, no matter how much you hate it.

Thats exactly what its like round here as well. They all have these little gangs and think their amazing... why can't they grow up? I was talking to a bouncer at a night club and he said that he's only ever taken a knife off of 3-4 white people. However, he said that he gets about double that number every week from black kids, he's even seen black people with a couple of guns.

The phone thing isn't a justification of peoples hatred against blacks, theres so many phones stolen everyday by all kinds of people that it isn't something you can freely label a race of people for being responsible for. Its an issue of personality rather than race.

On the subject of personality i think dave's right with the manner tom puts across in the posts, and in my eyes, its just as immature as the people who he regards as being racist.

Regards? My comments are aimed people who ARE racist. But fair enough, I'd usually have deleted my posts/written a huge reply and then not bothered, this time I have though - not in the best mood today admittedly.

To all the comments back to me, the reason i feel so strongly about 'non whites' is because there's so many around here, i live in Penge, which is like Brixton, Peckham and all of them other dodgy places around... I've not personally been mugged/ robbed, but, my mate had a £500/450 Saracen nicked from him by 3 black people, headbutted him off of it and rode off, i was there. Outside school, my mate got his phone nicked, oyster card nicked, about a tenner. The same people (about 10 black people) tried to rob me just before that, one of em said 'i'm gonna gash you and take your phone if you don't give it to me now' (i guessed gash means stab, and luckily i didn't have my phone with me). Only problem i've had with white people is when i was in the park with some girls and boys, long story, basically these chavvy girls got their 'boys' over to beat me and a mate up, the came over and said 'What the f**k you been saying BLUD' (black lingo).

That's all i can remember for now, but i'm pretty sure there's been other bad experiences i've had with blacks specifically.

But the problem is that you can't say that's true of all black people. Sure, it's terrible that those things have happened to you and your friends, but it's bad people who do that kind of thing. Someone I used to share a house with got mugged by a group of white lads. It doesn't mean that you or I are any more likely to start going out and mugging people.

In both cases, it was idiots who did it, not black or white people, just idiots.

Fair point, yes they are 'idiots' but it just seems to be such a big problem these days, i think there's only 5 people in my whole school that are black and do not dress/ act in an immidating way, it's not that they're black so i'm 'scared' of them, it's because they are deliberately intimidating.

I wouldn't mind if it was only the odd few from the black race, but it seems just because they're black they think it's their right to be a 'rude boy'. It's just spiraling out of control, too many of them.

I wouldn't call my self a racist, i'm sure a lot of you would, i'd say i have my views, and feel strongly about them.

Please take what I'm saying constructively - as I really don't mean it to come across as patronising or condescending - but I think part of your view stems from having only been in one place in the world, and perhaps not having seen other places, or mixed with different groups of people. If all you see around you is what you have described, then I'm not suprised you have the views you have, and I'd probably be the same in your situation.

All I can say is that I've met all kinds of great people from all walks of life, be they Jamaican, Indian, African, or White, but they were all good people. That said I've also met a lot of tosspots from all walks of life. It's just a question of experience, and looking for positives instead of negatives.

It's not immature though. When you grow up and enter the real world and talk to real people, you learn that:

1. Not every asian person is gonna go Jihad on your ass

2. Not every black person will knife you for your mobile

3. White scally kids are dicks, in the same way as black scally kids

4. Not every homosexual will bum you if you're male

5. The government does not give houses and Mercedes to immigrants just because they're foreign

Anyway i've not read the thread but if i get told something similar in work im going to ignore it. To be honest I celebrate christmas and other christian holidays. Regardless of where I am in the world, if I remember ill celebrate them. If I decide to go on holiday to India, I don't suddenly expect everyone to be converted to christians for a day to celebrate easter. Similarly if I get people coming up to me saying "Happy diwali" im not going to get angry and moan about it.

I do think ethnic minorities are pushing their luck when it comes to this sort of things. Not a racist, just dont see why they feel the need to do this....

I spose it varies from region to region.

One of the main things that piss me off is that English people are having their rights taken away from them so much, as said, we can't express ourselves about religion, race etc. Without being shot in the face (literaly)
