My Zoo Bars Creak

bite me

Recommended Posts

Ok so my zoo bars creak. I hear it is common, can anyone tell me if mine have a problem, or if its usual.

hope so!

Also my forks flex, alot, on my front wheel I can feel it and apparently its easily seen. My forks are echo but not sure which ones.

Is it just that im heavy or maybe cracked forks or any other possibilities?

Im looking for a new front wheel build, I currently have a Chris King hub running front disk. I wish to get a new set of spokes (black) and a new front rim, it is a mavic 721 ceramic at the moment. What recomendations would you give me?

Thank You,

Adam

note sure about the bars, but make sure that the stem bolts are all tightend, mine were loose which caused some creaking

and about the fork, i removed my headset thingy and got the fork out there was a small missing there at my bike...

but it could also be that its just loose

hope you can understand i suck at explaining things

Bars - Take them off the stem, and clean them up a bit. Usually dirt and stuff gets trapped inbetween, and just makes them creak? I dunno.

Also check for pressure cracks while they're off.

Forks - Probably best to take them off and have a good look about, and clean around the welds. You might've cracked those too.

Spokes - Mutiny ones. Got those front and back on my Mod, come in black, and £10 from Tartybikes.

If it definetly your bars creeking, stop using them now!

Usually a sign of a fracture. They will just snap soon without warning.

Check them around where they clamp to the stem.

Echo forks are flexi, it what gives them their feel.

Mine sound like they are gonna snapp but thats normal with all the pairs i've had.

my zoo bars dont creak, might be worth gettin a very slight smear of grease round the clamping faces of the stem, and whacking them back up nice and tight, may solve the problem, at leasts that wat it was on my old 24/7 bar stem combo.

all fun and games until your in a ambulance because you handle bars have done two rotations...

no no dont worry, there not fractured at all. itd the way the bars are made, they curve a bit where they clamp. everyone i ride with always have creaking zoo bars.

i know why my bars creak, its because i live right on the beach and the salt air and grit gets into them and makes them creak, every now and then i take it out and clean it up and its fine again.

maybe if u live near the beach or near one this may be why.

bars might be creaking if you have over tightened your stem, stem faces should never meet completely where the bolts are

If i were you, i would change them just to be on the safe side of things

Aluminium bars have MUCH harsher consequences when they fail than steel bars, dont bend, just take you by surprise and KABLAMMO - need dental surgery lol

Zoo bars creak because of the anodised finish...simple as that (Y) Everyone i know who've had zoo bars for a while have creaked. Some not so bad as others. If it annoys you just clean your bar and stem, lightly spray some wd40/gt85 and you're sorted :)
