munkytrials
hey all, just wondering what problems you came about when you first begun trials?for myself when i started way back in 2000 i couldnt find no books/magazines, notmuch places online for information on how to do stunts, bike trials, etc. the only wayi learnt is through my mates and the tricks and stunts vid.but since then more sites have come up, and there have been magazines likeBTM that have been and gone (has anyone got a copy?), MBUK do how to's for trials every so often, new DVD by ryan leech called 'Mastering the art of trials', etcso last question is, what do you think of today's solutions? and also for people whostarted riding the same time or earlier than me, what problems did you come about when beginning trials?all this is for my uni project and i would be grateful if you can provide some replies, thank you
Rebelistic
I think my bigest problem was and still is, that everything is so difficult. People make trials look so easy but even after years of practice I still feel like I'm not very good at it.By comparison freeride seems easy (but perhaps more scary). steve@banbury-trials
the biggest problem i had was that i was and still am the only rider in my home town so i have no one to learn from which is a bummer Rebelistic is so right in saying about how hard trials is ,many a young person has took interest in trials and then gone no further because they couldn't do trials in the first attempt .more dvds will definitely help with trials aswell .steve
Orgun_Donor
The first problem i had was getting a working bike, after breaking it all the time. As well as being a lonely rider, and not much to ride.

Ash-Kennard
to be honest, i never really found trials hard, it is just as hard as other sports, or maybe im just wierd.a major problem in the trials scene is competing against others during group sessions, e.g., i can sidehop 43" can you? but that is all part of learning and by the next ride, maybe you will have tried that little bit harder and maybe make it next time.ive lways had about 10 riders within a 4mile radius so, not too bad
Tom Rigg
Well i had a bunch of mates who liked biking, we all decided we liked to jump about so we searched martin ashton on the web from seeing him in mbuk, they had like 4 clips on the site "how to endo 180" "how to bunny hop" " how to wheely" "how to back hop", we learnt them all loved it all got tricks and stunts.. copied some of that. We got to a stage where we all had a sort of trials bike (merlins!!) and thought... now what do we do? everything is easy.. so we thought! we searched the internet for world trials, at the time video quality was SHIT on the web so we didnt watch much videos, we found on vtcz.ch a video cd of the 2000 world champs, so we got it, my god we watched it 2138019830 times went out and practiced more. So for me i didnt have much of a problem when learning to ride, i had mates who enjoyed the same thing, and a source for new moves to try.. the internet! its still the same now, the internet is the only main source for people to read and learn about trials, take the web out of the picture and what do you have? MBUK 2 page spread? so i think like other "minority" sports the internet is the key. Bringing people together from all over the world in the sport we love so much!
