Dan Clark
I want to get dual monitors for my music editing and programming.Means I could have Cubase open in one window, and Audition in the other, or Cubase in one window, and the instruments in the other.Miles easier than minimzing everything. RR_Trials
also for simple things such as browsing the web and using msn at the same time. It makes things a whole load easier when you can separate things, for example.. When you have those really annoying people on msn that only say 'hey, uk?, wad yah up 2, gtg bye' you could have that conversation up on one screen and something like the internet on the other so you dante have to keep clicking on a conversation if it is just pointless.Rorz! nmt_oli
I have a 20" widescreen as main monitor, and 15" and 2nd.have taskbar on main monitor, and use for most stuff, eg web browsing, vids, media centre, and have MSN, limewire, winamp, and icons on the other monitor. Also very useful for writing essays ect, can have word in one screen and net/referance on the other. If your clever you can have different pics.how much ram you run shouldnt be too much of an issue, i have 2gb. Your graphics card will have to work hard though. Yuo shoudlnt notice any slow response from either screen, unless your graphics card is struggling. Dan6061
Just curious, if you move the cursor to the edge of one screen, does it appear in the other screen?

nmt_oli
indeed, really freaks people out whove never see dual screen before when you drag a window across to the other screen. keeps them entertained for a good 5 minutes usually! beigemaster
It's pretty easy having the 2 monitors, you dont need special software just sort it out in control panel. It's dam useful if your using Premiere because you can spread your work area over the 2 and have a full sized preview screen.
Fish-Finger-er
Ahh, so that's what it's for.[attachmentid=8511]Sorry for the hi-jack but, would i be able to wire that up so it's my comp screen? scart to what ever the comp screen plug is called?yes, you could have that, but it would be very rubbish, the resolution of a regular tv screen is very very poor. ive got a link from my laptop to the 28 inch widescreen job in my front room. cant view the web or use msn or anything on it, anything above font size 22 is unreadable practically. only advantage is, vids look near dvd quality on it, yet appear slightly pixelated on my 17inch laptop screen. poopipe
it has it's uses - i always use 2 screens at work, i have a 21" and a 17" there at different resolutions, small one's for outlook and watching movies, big one for max, photoshop, antics etc. just to freak people out I put the right monitor on the left side of my desk I've got 2 19" monitors (got one donated ) at home and i hardly ever use both - only if I'm doing something that doesn't use much graphics power. You can't use SLI (2 graphics cards together for those that don't know/care) with dual monitors so it's fack all use for gaming or doing 3d stuff.I personally wouldn't spend any money on dual screens for home use unless I did a lot of video editing - that said, I refuse to use flatscreens (picture quality is still too shite IMO) and won't use a CRT that doesn't do 1600x1200 at over 100hz so buying two is a pretty serious investment.edit:: 4 screens can be done with an nvidia quadro NVS card - the low end ones aren't too pricy but they're utterly wank for gaming. I think the top range model will handle up to 16 displays - again, utterly wank for gaming. Edited December 3, 2006 by poopipe
Walleee
It's dual, unless of course they are fighting, in which case your right.
Tomm
4 screens can be done with two bog standard graphics cards (± Ultramon) I think. The main use for me is having a photoshop image on one screen, and all the toolbars on the other. Can do full screen editing very easily. Other than that there's not really a use for them. Give me one decent sized screen any day - I really want a 24" widescreen, but they're really very expensive.
Simon
www.ultramon.com . i use that, i have dual monitors its great Used it at work for 7 months, was sweet as, takes a bit of getting used to, and sometimes it would f**k up, like when running programs on screen 2, the popup for the program would appear on screen 1, annoying as hell. Also, don't hook up a TV as a second screen, its shit. The only reason i did it was to hide links to porn. Krisboats
Using two screens for gaming is generally crap anyway, because if its a first person shooter like counter strike or something the crosshair is split between the two screens, so its really shit to aim at stuff.I have seen a graphics adapter on www.overclockers.co.uk that lets you use three screens though. It'd be mental, complete peripheral vision on whats going on around you, although not many games support it i dont think and your graphics card would need to be immense as its 3 times the work. Fixed Pants™
Not as a second screen, as a primary screen.

Alexx
I've run loads of setups over the years, dual 20" 4:3 for a while, then went to single 24" widescreen, then to 24" with 20" 4:3 side panel, then 24" wide and two 20" wide, to be honest I'd rank a single 24" way over dual 20", but obviously the ultimate is 24" with 2 supporting monitors.Whatever your settup it just works like one big desktop, and you can move freely between them all, and yeah you can set seperate wallpapers etc.Using two screens for gaming is generally crap anyway, because if its a first person shooter like counter strike or something the crosshair is split between the two screens, so its really shit to aim at stuff.I have seen a graphics adapter on www.overclockers.co.uk that lets you use three screens though. Because the only game i've ever found in my life that gave me the option to span screens was flight simulator.
