ian
Didn't read yet another of your eaasy's, but 70mph and hydraulic brakes? What sort of kart's have you been on?The ones at my local go-kart track (owned by Eddie Irvine) have cable brakes for just the rear and I doubt they'd do anymore than 40 even when being pushed....you need to get yourself on some proper karts that do nearly 90mph, or have a go on shifter karts they are mega to drive and are stupidly quick. the shifter karts have mega brakes aswell. But the instructor said they top out at around 70-75 though we'd only get them to around 65 max.And yes, they had hydraulic brakes... we got a big lecture about how not to apply the brakes whilst still accelerating as it'll boil the brake fluid and they wont work as well... and that if we kept doing it it'd render them useless. They said loads of people do it when they've never been before and they have to re-fill the brake fluid to stop people crashing everywhere.Sounds like the ones you went on were the crappy ones, or kids karts Edited December 4, 2006 by Krisboats

mark145
Well Kris I totally agree by the sounds of it they haven't been in a real kart . If anyone here has been to Knock hill in Dunfermline, you will see the power of these little beast's, I went there last time i was on holiday and got the whole track to myself . The safety instructor was really lonely and started talking about how normally the little karts are between 50 and 70cc and can reach 55mph at the most, but the larger models at 150 to 250cc karts can reach up to 100mph if tuned right. The track that day was absolutely soaking and I was skidding every were but didn't have to care since there was only me on the track. That day I came 3 and a half seconds under the record there and I was totally chuffed considering the condition of the track.Well anyway I say practice a couple of times before you go and you will be fine . David
Wooo my team (Me and one other person) came first!!!! There were 6 teams of 2 in total. Thanks for the tips, I found that I could go flat out round 80% of the course and only really needed to brake at the hair pin. Was a great night but my wrists are aching loads now!
