It gives a better chain line with most trials cranksets as well as more hub choice.When I had my Iolo built I had it done like that and haven't looked back in the slightest. You wont notice the chainstay length changing from just tensioning the chain, and it gives you the adjustment if you want it. Only thing is I can tell you that to get a 380mm chainstay with 20:16t gearing you need a half-link. 385 is about right without though.
